Mount Gulian will be closed for public tours on Friday, June 5th, Saturday, June 6th, and Sunday, June 7th.

Why the sudden closure? Word from the continental lines is that General George Washington himself is arriving for a historic visit (and our annual dinner celebration!). General von Steuben’s headquarters must be entirely secured for the Commander-in-Chief. 🦅

We will resume our regular tour schedule on Wednesday, June 10th. Thank you for your understanding as we host our most distinguished guest of the season!

If you’ve ever walked the grounds of Mount Gulian and wanted to pull back the layers of time, these four books are the perfect place to start. From the daily lives of the people who shaped our estate to the architecture of the region, here is what we are reading:

📖 Freedom's Gardener by Myra Beth Young Armstead – The incredible, true story of James F. Brown, a fugitive slave who became Mount Gulian’s master gardener.

📖 The Drillmaster of Valley Forge by Paul Lockhart – A deep dive into Baron von Steuben, the military genius who used Mount Gulian as his Revolutionary War headquarters.

📖 Dutch Houses in the Hudson Valley Before 1776 by Helen Wilkinson Reynolds – A fascinating look at the unique architecture of the region, perfect for fans of our 1730s Dutch Barn and homestead.

There are only 2 days left to secure your reservations for our most prestigious event of the year. On June 6th, General George Washington returns to Mount Gulian to recount the pivotal moments of our struggle for Independence.

As we celebrate the 250th anniversary of our nation, there is no better place to reflect on our history than the site that served as a Revolutionary War headquarters and the birthplace of the Society of the Cincinnati.
