Happy Juneteenth!

Chattel slavery in the U.S. didn't simply end with Abraham Lincoln's passing of the Emancipation Proclamation. In fact, its end would likely have been deferred or denied without Black communities organizing as leaders in their collective liberation.

To this day, Black-led organizations lead the fight against systemic racism that permeates every aspect of our lives. This fight is an extension of the same fight that led to the freeing of the last enslaved people in Galveston, TX on the first Juneteenth... two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation.

Celebrate Juneteenth by finding ways to consistently, materially support Black-led organizations fighting to bring revolutionary justice and equity to a world filled with oppression and inequality.

Fair Water Amendment petition organizers delivered nearly 13,000 voter signatures to Corpus Christi City Hall on Monday afternoon—well over the number of signatures required for the amendment to be included on the November ballot.

For the first time in Corpus Christi’s history, residents may be able to vote to stop industrial water users from avoiding applicable surcharges during a drought.

When we organize, we win! 🫶

The desal disaster continues!🚨😡

Council Members voted to table the agenda item until September 1st after countless community members demanded that they stop pursuing the risky Inner Harbor desalination project. Tuesday’s meeting also highlighted that the council cannot make a properly informed decision about the project due to the lack of information the has been presented from the Far Field Model.

It is time that the Mayor and the Council listen to not only the science but to the communities they serve - DITCH DESAL!🗣️💧

At 2:20AM today, Corpus Christi City Council approved a motion to table the vote to fund the Inner Harbor Desalination Plant until September 1st. The motion leaves Corpus Christians in limbo regarding an ecologically disastrous, environmentally racist, massively expensive desalination project so controversial that it’s drawn national media attention to Corpus Christi.

A collective groan of frustration rose from the crowd when the motion to table the vote was passed.

It's reckless to move forward with the Inner Harbor Desalination Plant before completing rigorous scientific analysis of its potential impacts on the bay. Entire ecosystems and economies could collapse from this level of recklessness.
