Judge Matt Sebesta crassly compared his constituents to disabled children in a recent meeting. Why? He allegedly receiving emails voicing concerns that school funding would be harmed by a massive tax break to fertilizer company NeuAg.
Sebesta was triggered by what he perceived to be a misunderstanding, citing that Brazoria County taxes don't directly fund schools. While this is technically true, the county's taxes DO fund programs on which schools rely, such as:
-libraries
-parks
-museums
-community centers
-housing for foster children..and more.
The funding of these programs directly affects school operations and budgets.
Brazoria County residents have valid reason to be concerned for their children, especially if their representative is willing to use the most vulnerable children as a punchline in defense of tax breaks to big industry.
Brazoria County residents also deserve to have their concerns taken seriously by their representatives, especially when they involve the wellbeing of their children.
