The Dawsons were early developers of South Austin. Mollie Dawson was principal of the first public school in South Austin, and Mollie Dawson Elementary School on South First Street is named for her. Her brother Nicholas served one term in the Texas Legislature and brought the first streetcar service to South Austin. Five of the stone Dawson Houses remain in Sout

h Austin, but there are others of the same design near Blanco and West 10th and 11th Street near the Texas Military Institute building (on Castle Hill). The first neighborhoods in the Bouldin Creek area were platted in the mid-1890's after the estate of James Bouldin was settled. Bouldin, who died in 1876, owned the area south of the river roughly between South First and Lamar Boulevard. John and Mary Robbins, the first residents of the Dawson-Robbins house, purchased the house from Mollie and Nannie Dawson in 1899.
