Yesterday was World Polio Day. Polio is not a separate Rotary project — it sits inside one of the seven causes Rotary organises around: disease prevention and treatment.

That area covers immunisation, clinic infrastructure, medical equipment, training for health workers, and getting care to places where the nearest doctor is hours away.

Most of it never makes news. It is also the reason a village has a functioning clinic ten years after a Rotary club in Georgia paid for the first one.

🌍🕊️ MAY PEACE PREVAIL ON EARTH — A HISTORIC WORLD POLIO DAY CELEBRATION IN WARM SPRINGS! 💜

What an incredible morning of fellowship, history, and Rotary service as Rotary District 6900 celebrated World Polio Day with a very special Peace Pole dedication in Warm Springs, Georgia!

There could be no more meaningful location for this celebration than Warm Springs — a community forever connected to the fight against polio and the remarkable legacy of President Franklin D. Roosevelt.

After contracting polio in 1921, FDR discovered the therapeutic benefits of Warm Springs' naturally heated waters. His personal journey led to the establishment of a rehabilitation center that became a beacon of hope for people living with the effects of polio. Warm Springs would become known around the world as a place of healing, determination, and hope.

Today, that same spirit lives on through Rotary's unwavering commitment to END POLIO NOW! Since launching PolioPlus in 1985, Rotary and its global partners have helped reduce wild poliovirus cases by more than 99.9%. But our work is not finished, and Rotary remains committed to a world where no child ever has to suffer from this preventable disease.

🤝 ROTARY CLUBS UNITED IN SERVICE AND PEACE
A special thank you to the Rotary Clubs of North Cobb and Meriwether County for partnering to make this meaningful dedication possible! We were also delighted to have Rotarians from the Muscogee-Columbus and Peachtree City Rotary Clubs join us, demonstrating the power of Rotary connections across our district.

🕊️ FOUR LANGUAGES. ONE MESSAGE. ONE WORLD.
Our new Peace Pole shares the universal message "May Peace Prevail on Earth" on each of its four sides, with every language representing a special connection to this community and Rotary's mission:
English — Honoring the primary language of our community and the shared message of peace.
Spanish — Recognizing the growing cultural diversity of our region and the importance of welcoming and embracing our neighbors.
Creek (Muscogee) — Honoring the Indigenous heritage of the Muscogee (Creek) people, whose ancestral homelands include this region of Georgia, long before Warm Springs became known for its healing waters.
Italian — Celebrating the historic visit of Rotary International President Francesco Arezzo to Warm Springs last year, marking the first visit by a sitting Rotary International President to this special community.

Peace and polio eradication are deeply connected. Both require cooperation across borders, respect for every human life, and a shared commitment to building a better future.

As we reflect on the history of Warm Springs and the extraordinary progress toward ending polio, today's dedication reminds us that Rotary doesn't just talk about creating hope and peace — we take action to make them possible.

🌎 Together, we create lasting impact. Together, we END POLIO NOW. And together, we build peace.

In 2014, Diana Maria Pirga saw a social media post about a Rotaract project working on polio eradication, and told herself that was the work she wanted to be doing.

Ten years later, she is doing it.

Diana is a digital communication specialist with UNICEF and a member of the Rotary Club of Türkiye Evrensel. She works on polio eradication in Pakistan — one of the last places on earth where wild poliovirus still circulates.

Her part of it has nothing to do with vaccines. She listens to communities, online and through colleagues on the ground, to work out what people actually need to hear — then builds the campaigns that answer it. In Sindh she works alongside the frontline workers going door to door, dispelling the myths that reach a household before the health team does.

She found this through a post on social media. Now she writes them.

Everything the Rotary Foundation funds internationally runs through seven categories. They matter because they explain what a Rotary club will and will not take on.

Peacebuilding and conflict prevention
Disease prevention and treatment
Water, sanitation, and hygiene
Maternal and child health
Basic education and literacy
Community economic development
Environment

That is the whole list.

The categories do more work than they look like they do. A global grant must aim at measurable outcomes in at least one of them, and then pass a second test: the result has to be something the community can maintain locally after the funding stops. A gift solves today. Capacity solves the next ten years.

Across District 6900, it shows up as food banks and hunger relief, literacy programs, medical equipment drives, veterans support, and disaster relief.

"If Rotary is to realize its proper destiny, it must be evolutionary at all times, revolutionary on occasion."

Paul Harris wrote that. Zones 33 and 34 have decided this is the occasion.

Rotary Revolution is our Zone Summit, and it lands in Williamsburg, Virginia, October 21–25 — on the ground where a revolution actually started. Its tagline is the whole idea in five words: a revolution led by serving hands. Not noise, not division, but the kind of change that comes from people who show up and do the work.

The new Declaration of Service film is the opening argument for all of it — and Rotarians from clubs across District 6900 are in it. Watch for a face you know.

"We will unite. We will change. We will commit. We will lead. And we will serve."

Five weeks left to nominate a District Governor.

Nominations for the 2029–30 District Governor of District 6900 close October 31. Clubs submit on their candidate's behalf, which means the conversation starts at your club, not with the district.

What the role asks for: a member in good standing who has served a full term as club president, and who will have been a Rotarian for at least seven years by 2029.

What it asks of you is smaller. If someone came to mind while you were reading this, tell them — and tell your club president, who has the packet.

A note for club public image chairs across District 6900: three EPIC Award tasks are due on the same day.

The EPIC Award — Excellence in Public Image Coordination — asks clubs for one task a month and recognizes them at year end. July's task was an audit of the club's online presence. August's was a public image plan. September's is a content calendar.

All three are due October 31.

That is a month away, and a club that has not started has three pieces of work to produce at once. Worth knowing: three completed tasks earns Bronze recognition, so a club that clears this deadline has already earned one.

Tomorrow night, an hour on taking better Rotary photos with the phone already in your pocket.

"Taking Great Rotary Photos" is the Zones 33/34 public image session for September — Wednesday, September 23, at 6:00 PM ET. It covers composition, lighting, simple camera settings, editing, and a repeatable shot list you can hand to whoever is holding the camera at your next project.

The premise: good Rotary photography is not about expensive equipment. It is about seeing the moment and moving closer.

Every club in this district can use this one. Bring your public image chair.
