We honor the life and extraordinary legacy of Dolores Huerta, a trailblazing civil rights and labor leader whose lifelong commitment to justice, equity, and community empowerment helped transform our nation.

Through decades of advocacy, Dolores reminded us that lasting change is built through collective action, that every voice matters, and that all families deserve dignity, opportunity, and the chance to thrive.

Her legacy lives on in the communities she championed, the generations of leaders she inspired, and the continued work to build a more just and equitable future for children and families.

SĂ se puede. Today, and always.

Coming in 2027: Child Care Finder Alameda County! 🎉

Funded by Measure C, this new, mobile-friendly website will help families search for free or low-cost child care by location, hours, languages spoken, and more. Families can learn about child care payment assistance programs they may qualify for.

Child Care Finder is currently being built in phases, with families helping shape it from the start.

On Thursday, our team joined the Children’s Initiative Oversight Commission to share what OCI (Measure AA) has built since 2022 and to give a first look at our new public data dashboard, an interactive view of how Oakland’s voter-approved funding is supporting the city’s youngest children, families, and early educators.

From FY 2022–23 through FY 2025–26:

đź’° $53 million in OCI Early Education Fund investments

🧑‍🧑‍🧒‍🧒 Approximately 7,800 children impacted

📚 660 early educators supported

🏫 34 early education sites receiving facility improvements or expansions

Together with Alameda County’s Measure C and state and federal resources, OCI puts universal access to affordable, high-quality early learning for 3- and 4-year-olds from low income families within reach. We’re grateful to Oakland Unified School District, the City of Oakland’s Early Childhood and Family Services, Accountability Officer Jenn Caban, and the Commission for their partnership and oversight.

As the City’s Early Education Implementation Partner, we’re proud to help advance this work and make the data accessible to the communities we serve.

Thanks to all of you who came to our Mobile Museum at Oaktoberfest.

Over 760 parents and children (!) visited Habitot at the “Parent Chill Zone” at Oakland’s annual Oaktoberfest celebration in the Dimond District on Sunday, October 4. Our Waterworks exhibit was especially welcome on one of the hottest days of the year. Many thanks to the Dimond Improvement Association for including us.

The Mobile Museum at Oaktoberfest was supported with funds from First 5 Alameda County , with additional support from the Dimond Improvement Association and Oaktoberfest.
