MAN POSING AS POLICE OFFICER ARRESTED IN QUEZON CITY

A quick verification call helped expose a man allegedly posing as a police officer and led to his arrest early Tuesday, October 27, inside a hotel in Cubao, Quezon City.

Under the leadership of Police General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr., Chief, Philippine National Police (PNP), personnel of the Cubao Police Station 7 responded at around 12:20 a.m. after hotel security sought police assistance following a complaint involving a uniformed man who allegedly restrained a 54-year-old businessman and told him, “Huli ka.”

Responding officers found the 31-year-old man wearing a police uniform bearing the insignia of a Police Executive Master Sergeant and a patch associated with the Taguig City Police Station. He claimed to be a CIDG operative assigned at Camp Crame but could not present a PNP identification card.

Rather than rely on the man's claim, responding personnel immediately checked his supposed identity and assignment with the concerned unit. Verification showed that no officer matching the identity and assignment he presented was assigned to the CIDG.

The man was placed under arrest and is facing complaints for alleged violations of Article 177 (Usurpation of Authority or Official Functions) and Article 179 (Illegal Use of Uniforms or Insignia) of the Revised Penal Code. Documents are being prepared for the appropriate inquest proceedings.

For Chief PNP PGen Nartatez, the incident underscores why police personnel must remain accessible and why reports involving individuals who claim police authority should be checked without delay.

“Kapag may taong nagpapakilalang pulis, dapat madaling ma-verify kung sino talaga siya. Hindi sapat ang uniform o ang sinasabi niyang assignment. We have to check the facts, and if the claim does not hold up, we act accordingly and let the proper process take its course,” PGen Nartatez said.

The Chief PNP also emphasized that the police uniform carries with it a responsibility to protect, assist, and serve the public—not to create fear or confusion.

“Ang police uniform ay simbolo ng tiwala ng tao. Kaya hindi natin dapat hayaang gamitin ito para manakot, manlinlang, o magpanggap na may awtoridad. Our people deserve to know that when they encounter a police officer, they are dealing with someone who is properly identified and authorized,” he added.

The swift response reflects the PNP’s continuing emphasis on timely police action, verification, and coordination under its Focused Agenda, particularly Enhanced Managing Police Operations. It likewise supports the administration of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. in strengthening responsive and accountable public service.

The PNP encourages the public to remain vigilant when approached by individuals claiming to be police officers, especially when their conduct or identity raises concern. Anyone who needs immediate police assistance may contact the nearest police station or call 911.

Through responsive action and adherence to lawful procedures, the PNP continues to uphold its commitment to Bagong PNP para sa Bagong Pilipinas: Serbisyong Mabilis, Tapat at Nararamdaman.

The operations involved the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group, regional and local police units, the PNP Drug Enforcement Group, Special Action Force, and other PNP units.

PNP Chief PGEN Nartatez emphasized that the police will sustain efforts to locate fugitives and enforce valid warrants of arrest. “Every wanted person arrested is another step toward accountability and the enforcement of the rule of law.”

“Walang dapat makaiwas sa batas. Patuloy nating tutugisin ang mga wanted at titiyaking maipatutupad ang mga warrant alinsunod sa batas,” he added.

The PNP Focused Agenda, a framework for transforming police service, reinforces these efforts through Enhanced Managing Police Operations to strengthen law enforcement and the pursuit of wanted persons.

As the PNP intensifies its campaign to bring fugitives before the courts under the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., it reaffirms its commitment to “Bagong PNP para sa Bagong Pilipinas: Serbisyong Mabilis, Tapat, at Nararamdaman.”

True wisdom begins with honouring and respecting God. In a world filled with information and opinions, God's wisdom helps us discern what is right and guides our decisions. When we humbly accept His instruction, we grow in understanding and become better equipped to face life's challenges.

As we journey through each day, let us seek God's wisdom above our own understanding. May we remain teachable, willing to learn from His Word, and open to godly guidance. Let us also encourage one another to stay faithful, make wise choices, and trust God's direction in every situation. When we place God first in our lives, we not only grow in wisdom ourselves but also become a blessing and positive influence to those around.

Have a Blessed Saturday ka-STRONG FG!
