Police Regional Office 8, led by Regional Director Police Brig. Gen. Romano V. Cardiño, alongside the Eastern Samar Police Provincial Office, officially launched the "S.A.F.E. Eastern Visayas: In Case of Emergency, Dial 911" initiative in Eastern Samar to strengthen police visibility, enhance community safety, and drastically improve emergency response capabilities.
The unified 911 hotline connects key response entities, including the Philippine National Police, Bureau of Fire Protection, and Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, ensuring a streamlined, rapid response during fires, rescue operations, and urgent medical emergencies across the province.
More than 600 stakeholders attended the launch and ceremonial unveiling, including municipal mayors, barangay captains, provincial board members, partner agencies, and community representatives.
In his message, Gov. RV Evardone commended the national government's efforts to supply vehicles to local police units, saying additional motorcycles could boost police presence and make communities easier to reach.
According to him, police patrols and checkpoints are now more visible across the province, which helps keep residents safe and secure.
In full support of the initiative, Evardone pledged additional motor vehicles to boost responders and municipal police offices across Eastern Samar.
The governor said the provincial government will look into funding more vehicles in its upcoming budget, stressing that police officers need enough means of transport to get to communities and respond to incidents.
"Naiisip ko kanina nung nakita ko 'yung mga motor vehicles natin, parang kulang eh, parang kulang pa. Kaya I make a commitment for the Eastern Samar Provincial Police Office, magbibigay rin kami ng karagdagang motor vehicles," Evardone said.(SEJ-GBP)
