The final result - a newly re-thatched Hermit's Hut in the private Wilderness Garden. Over several dry days recently, Jeff and his team replaced the roof with new thatch. Next week, we'll show you how it was done.

Neil ticked the glass repair to the greenhouse off the list last week. Here he is just scoring a tiny piece off the edge of the pane to adjust to fit. A tricky piece saved until last as it meant unscrewing part of the frame to replace the broken glass with the new piece.

All the little cuttings and tender summer plants are cosy for the winter now. In the garden, the orange and lemon trees have also been tucked up in the Orangery.

Now the clocks have gone back, it really feels as if winter must be on its way.

With so many large and aged trees and two storms blowing across over the weekend, sadly this was not an unexpected sight yesterday morning.

Fortunately we have Nick who was able to clear the drive for access.

We had a strange look from the gardeners last week as we were walking backwards up the path on the brightest of days just to catch the point where the chimneys were part caught against the sharp white cloud and part against the blue sky.

A vain attempt at being artistic but perhaps being immersed in our art collection is finally having an effect?

We‘ve had a change of image on that other social media platform today so thought we’d share with you too.

No AI but just from a time when striped lawns were rather more easy to come by than they seem to be now. An autumn/winter and spring maintenance programme is definitely on the schedule.
