Donate to Hertfordshire Libraries

It’s now easy to donate online to the library service by visiting our website. Those who visit the library are able to do this in person. Now you can also support the library service by donating online. You don't have to donate. Hertfordshire Libraries are a universal and free service to the community. Your decision to donate is an entirely voluntary one. We ask that you donate only as much as you feel comfortable with. You may want to consider either a one-off payment or more frequently.

100% of each donation goes directly to Hertfordshire Libraries and is used to maintain and enhance our services. https://www.hertfordshire.gov.uk/librarydonations

By the pricking of my thumbs, something wicked this way comes... Today's HALLOWEEK recommendation is from Susannah! 💀🎃👻🧟‍♀️

"I couldn't choose between Gideon the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir and The Seven Moons of Maali Almeida by Shehan Karunatilaka. One is about le***an necromancers exploring a haunted gothic castle in outer space, the other is about a war photographer who wakes up in the afterlife and has seven moons to contact the man and woman he loves most and lead them to a secret that must be uncovered.

Both books are chaotic, unflinching and filled with skeletons, ghosts, ghouls, mysteries, horrors, and impending doom. I haven't been able to get either of these books out of my head since I read them... You could even say... they're haunting me..." 👻

Today's horrifyingly good book recommendation for HALLOWEEK is from Kat! 🎃💀👻

"I have two Halloween book recommendations, which are Carrie by Stephen King, and Matilda by Roald Dahl.

Re-reading Matilda as an adult I realised that Carrie is Matilda for grown-ups (but slightly more X-***ed), although reading Matilda at any age is always a treat! Both have telekinetic powers, they’re both highly intelligent, and show strength in unexpected ways. There’s nothing more satisfying at this time of year than lighting some candles and reading about the power of female rage."

Double, double toil and trouble; Fire burn and caldron bubble... It's HALLOWEEK! 💀🎃🦇🧛‍♂️🧟‍♂️

The team here at Hitchin Library have selected some spooky recommendations for every day this week in the lead up to Halloween, starting with Laura...

"My recommendation for ‘Halloweek’ is Meg and Mog 😊🐈‍⬛🧙‍♀️ Alongside dressing up as a witch for the annual Halloween school party, I have cherished memories of reading Meg and Mog as a child, and the timeless charm of these stories still make them as popular today!”

‘Tis the season for a cosy crime novel!

Is there anything better than wrapping yourself up in a handmade blanket while reading an Agatha Christie novel? What’s that? You’ve never done either? Well maybe it’s time to see what all the fuss is about and give it a go! Knitting that is, not murder. 🪡

Happy spooky season everyone!
