When Annandale Distillery opened, Annan was an established embarkation port for emigrant Scots. As a tribute to these intrepid souls, the ‘A’ of Annandale is in the image of a billowing sail. Located close to the Scotland-England border, Annandale is also the first (and last) distillery in Scotland. Whilst in the ownership of the famous Johnnie Walker, Annandale Distillery closed in 1918, seemingly forever. Rescued by David Thomson & Teresa Church in 2007, this once derelict distillery sprang back into life on November 3rd, 2014

Three years later, on Wednesday November 15th, 2017, they filled the first ‘new era’ bottle of Annandale Single Malt Scotch Wh**ky. With multiple award-winning single cask – single malt whiskies the peated Man O’ Sword and unpeated Man O’ Words. Named in celebration of local icons, King Robert the Bruce (Scotland’s Warrior King and 7th Earl of Annandale) and Robert Burns (Scotland’s National Poet and Exciseman in Annandale), respectively. Come and visit, take a tour, sip our stunning peated and unpeated whiskies and taste our delicious food. We promise you a warm Scottish welcome. A proud moment for the Annandale family. Our very own Zoey Darnbrough has been featured in BBC News.

Zoey joined us as a tour guide three and a half years ago and is now our Group Tourism and Events Co-ordinator. You may well have met her on a tour or at one of our events.

After studying in Stirling, she chose to come home to Dumfries and Galloway, and she is passionate about everything our corner of Scotland has to offer:
“I always like to say that we’ve got everything that the Highlands have, but just in a much quieter area.”

She was also recently nominated for Rising Star at the South of Scotland Thistle Awards. Well deserved, Zoey.

We’re delighted to share that Annandale Distillery Group has been shortlisted for Environment Champion at the 2026 Dumfries & Galloway Life Awards.

It has been a special year for our ‘12 Steps to Net Zero’ journey here in Annan. With our partners Cochran and Exergy3, we switched on a world-first net-zero boiler. It takes the carbon out of our high-heat distillation while keeping every bit of the traditional craft our wh**ky is known for.

At Comlongon Estate, our Kitchen Garden now supplies fresh fruit, vegetables, edible flowers, meat, poultry, eggs and honey to The Maltings Coffee Shop and our sister site, the MICHELIN-listed Globe Inn. Nothing goes to waste, as leftovers from both kitchens go back to feed the chickens or become rich compost for the garden.

And earlier this summer, the distillery was honoured with a Green Tourism Silver Award.

As our Co-founder, Professor David Thomson, puts it: “We are proud to show that heritage, hospitality, and modern environmental responsibility can go hand in hand.”

We’ll be raising a glass at Easterbrook Hall on Friday 6 November. Do wish us luck.

From Annan to Delhi and Mumbai.

Earlier this month, John Coombes travelled to India with the Scotland Office’s trade delegation. He shared the Annandale story with importers, distributors and retailers in the world’s largest wh**ky market.

“It was great to experience India, its culture and real Indian food, in the short time we had. The food and hospitality were fantastic.”

Every bottle of Annandale comes from a single cask, with just 220 to 280 bottles in each. Bringing wh**ky made this way to a new market takes time and care, and this was a meaningful first step.

Thank you to UK Government Scotland and the UK India Business Council for such a warm welcome.

Double honours for Man O’Words.

We’re thrilled to share that not one, but two of our Man O' Words Double Oaked ex-Bourbon 2018 single casks have been shortlisted in the 2026 Scottish Wh**ky Awards! Casks 301 and 513 are going head-to-head in the Single Cask Scotch 12 & Under category!

Named after Dumfriesshire's own Robert Burns, these unpeated single casks showcase what our team does best: patient craft, meticulous cask selection and a whole lot of Annandale character.

Here's to Glasgow on 26th November!

What a weekend!

The Spirit of Bourbon brought together good wh**ky, great company, and a closer look at the casks that play such an important part in our wh**ky.

We had tastings, an extended 1836 Tour and a live cooperage demonstration, where guests got to see first-hand the craft that goes into making and preparing our casks.

There was also time for good food, live music from Grant Dinwoodie and David Bass, and plenty of wh**ky enjoyed along the way.

A brilliant afternoon celebrating the craft, character and influence of the cask.

The Bourbon Showcase is nearly here.

This Saturday, we're opening the Victorian Bonded Warehouse for an afternoon built around bourbon-seasoned casks. This rare opportunity will include live coopering, four exclusive tastings and a one-off single cask, single malt release limited to just 40 bottles available to purchase on the day.

It's also one of the last opportunities to secure a cask from our original French Oak ex-Green River Bourbon parcel, of which only four remain.
