Getting ewe nutrition right before tupping can have a huge impact on flock performance.

Fertility, conception rates and lamb vigour are all influenced by the nutritional status of the ewe long before the ram goes in. That's why David Thirlwell - Nunwick Farm places such a strong focus on body condition, trace element status and flock health in the weeks leading up to tupping.

What should happen before the tups go in?

At Nunwick Farm, home to 1,000 Texel cross breeding ewes and 190 Stabiliser suckler cows, we follow the key health, nutrition and management steps that help set up a successful lambing season before tupping begins.

In this video, we visit Nunwick Farm to see how an entirely closed breeding system has been developed, producing replacement ewes in-house and giving greater control over fertility, health and flock performance.
