Are you a plumber? Sanitation worker? Daycare staff? Certified Nurse Assistant? If you are did you know you are at an increased risk of developing Hepatitis A?

Hepatitis A can be transmitted through contaminated food or water, close contact with someone who has Hepatitis A, drug use, poor personal hygiene, daycare workers changing diapers, sanitation workers who come in contact with raw sewage, all in all through oral-fecal contamination. The short explanation is not washing your hands before you eat and ingesting the virus.

That is quite a bit of money, right? That is also quite a bit of products, FREE products I might add, that we have distributed in 2026 so far to our patrons at the health department. This is JUST the products that we have received from a great organization, Americares.

If you have ever received band-aids, sunscreen, hygiene kits, Neutrogena products, Tylenol, Benadryl, free reader glasses, bandages, baby shampoo, mouthwash, Visine eye proeducts, cold and flu medication, the fabulous, fold up sunglasses, and many other items that we have not listed, it is indeed from this company. And the best thing, we receive it for FREE! And we in turn share it with our community.

This is just one of the MANY programs we provide to our patrons at the Cherokee County Health Department.

The Cherokee County Health Department is excited to announce, it has received multiple pieces of valuable Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner equipment through a generous grant. This grant was made available by the Pittsburg State University, Irene Ransom School of Nursing, SANE Grant Project.

The equipment includes a Canon EOS Rebel SL3 camera, an SD card, camera bag, a Mobile ODT EVA system that allows technicians to provide office bound colposcope images, and an Alternative Light Kit with filters.

This equipment is foundational for our SANE program that is to begin in the upcoming weeks. We are fortunate for this grant that not only paid for the equipment but for the training for one of our nurses to provide SANE exams within our community.

KDHE Opens Applications for CPR Training and AED Funding Program

TOPEKA - The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) is now accepting applications for state funding to support cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training and the purchase and maintenance of automated external defibrillators (AEDs).

The funding, authorized through House Bill 2513, is available to eligible public and nonpublic school districts, as well as religious or charitable associations, libraries and tribal entities that have a registered and approved Cardiac Emergency Response Plan (CERP) with KDHE.

The program is designed to increase access to lifesaving training and equipment across Kansas, with an emphasis on expanding access in rural communities. Funding opportunities include CPR and AED training for public and nonpublic school districts and support for AED maintenance and purchases.

A total of $750,000 is available through three funding opportunities:

$500,000 for AED maintenance and/or purchases for eligible public and nonpublic school districts.
$125,000 for CPR and AED training for eligible public and nonpublic school districts.
$125,000 for AED maintenance and/or purchases for eligible religious or charitable associations, libraries and tribal entities.
Applications will be accepted through April 30, 2027, or until all available funding has been expended. The first application review will begin Oct. 1, 2026. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis, and applicants are encouraged to apply early while funding remains available.

Public and nonpublic school districts can apply for available training, AED purchase and maintenance opportunities through the school entity application.

Religious or charitable associations, libraries and tribal entities can apply for AED purchase and maintenance funding through the non-school entity application.
