As midterms and assignments ramp up, students fill the library with energy, focus, and productivity. The Trinity Library has always been a popular place to study.
From 1925-1955, the library reading room was located on the first floor of Trinity College west of the porter’s lodge, looking out on Hoskin Avenue. If students wanted a book, they needed to submit a request at a small counter and then library staff would go and retrieve the book from the stacks in the basement.
The library then moved to the basement of Trinity College. Some found the library overcrowded and inadequate, while others were fond of its big oak tables and the sounds of the organ and smell of incense drifting down from the chapel above.
Finally, thanks to Ted Rogers, the Friends of the Library, and many staff and donors, the John W. Graham Library opened in 2000. From the library's opening and into the present day, many students have ranked the library as their favourite library on campus and talked about its cozy, historic ambience for study.
Come and study at the Graham Library and check out our exhibit on the library history on the lower level of the library.
