A yellow/gold coloured substance being sold as fentanyl tested positive for carfentanil. Carfentanil is an opioid and large animal tranquillizer that is 100 times more toxic than fentanyl.

In any drug overdose, call 911 and administer naloxone every 2-3 minutes until the person starts breathing. Stay until help arrives.

Ticks can remain active throughout the fall, especially when temperatures remain mild.

Fall is an important time to keep taking precautions against ticks, especially if you're doing outdoor activities like yard cleanup or playing in the leaves!

You can reduce your risk by:
✔️Wearing light-coloured clothing so ticks are easier to spot
✔️Covering exposed skin with long sleeves, pants or leggings tucked into socks, closed-toe shoes, and a hat
✔️Using insect repellent
✔️Doing a full-body tick check every time you get home

Grey Bruce Public Health has been notified of 3 suspected opioid-related overdoses that occurred between Oct. 14 and 15, 2026, in Owen Sound and Saugeen Shores.
The suspected substance was yellow fentanyl in one case and unknown in the other cases. In all cases, individuals were responsive to naloxone.
Please continue to encourage all people who use drugs to have naloxone on hand and always to have a sober friend with them who can administer naloxone and call 911 in case of an overdose. Naloxone is available at pharmacies and participating community partners, and at Grey Bruce Public Health, Mon-Fri, 8:30 am to 4 pm. No appointment needed.

We're teaming up with the Owen Sound Attack to remind residents that the safest way to dispose of expired/unused medications is to return them to a pharmacy.
Starting Oct. 4, and while supplies last, people who drop off old medications at Shoppers Drug Mart on 16th St. E. can receive a free ticket voucher for any regular season Attack home game.
