Underage drinking is common in Canada, with many young people taking their first drink around age 13 and most trying alcohol at least once during their school years.

Join this upcoming webinar from "Substance" for parents and caregivers to learn how alcohol affects youth, why teens choose to drink, and how to have calm and effective conversations with their kids about peer pressure, stress and making safer choices. https://www.talksubstance.org/support/webinars/

Health is shaped by how we move, sleep, and spend our time across the whole day. Canada’s 24-Hour Movement Guidelines recognize that physical activity, sleep, and screen time are connected. Small changes, such as being active during the day, maintaining regular sleep routines, and reducing screen use in the evening, can support physical and mental well-being for children, youth, and adults.

As summer nears, this is a quick reminder that playgrounds and sports fields are required to be smoke and vape-free including 20 metres from the edge of these spaces. The outdoor grounds of community recreational facilities, including 20 metres from the property edge are also smoke and vape-free spaces which could include multiple sports fields, baseball diamonds or play areas.

What about cravings? Approved ni****ne replacement therapy like gum, lozenges and patches are helpful quit aids and can reduce cravings and withdrawal symptoms during a quit attempt, or when in places where smoking or va**ng is not permitted. Free ni****ne replacement therapy is available at www.StopOnNet.ca or speak with your family health team about the STOP program.

It’s Safe Boating Awareness Week—a reminder to enjoy the water while putting safety first. Before you head out, make sure you’re prepared: wear a lifejacket, boat sober, stay cold‑water safe, take a boating course, and check that both you and your vessel are ready for the trip.

Safe and responsible boating helps protect everyone on our lakes and waterways.
