We are experts in creating pre-qualified Arrangements to help councils and other organisations to deliver value for money by streamlining the procurement process. Our Arrangements are considered an LGA Arrangement and are subject to an exception within the Local Government Regulations 2012

Established in 2001 to assist Queensland councils with procurement, we are a wholly owned subsidiary of the Local Government Association of Queensland (LGAQ). We are a profit-for-purpose organisation and any profit is provided to the LGAQ, who use the funds to provide high quality services to member councils in Queensland. We also work in partnership with the Local Government Association of Northern Territory (LGANT), whose member councils can access our Arrangements through an exemption in the Local Government (General) Regulations 2021.

The FNQ Procurement Summit is just around the corner, and we're looking forward to welcoming procurement professionals from across Far North Queensland and beyond, to Cairns next week.

As we count down to the event, we'd like to thank the exhibitors who are helping make this year's Summit possible.

Events like this are about more than presentations and discussions. They're an opportunity for procurement professionals to connect with Local Buy pre-qualified suppliers, explore new ideas and solutions, and have meaningful conversations about the challenges and opportunities facing local government.

We're grateful to our exhibitors for supporting the Summit and for the knowledge, experience and insights they'll be bringing to delegates from across Far North Queensland.

We look forward to seeing everyone in Cairns on 29 October.

When disaster strikes, councils need to be ready to act.

As we heard from our CEO Brett Fraser last week at the LGAQ annual conference, effective disaster recovery starts well before an event occurs.

Strong planning, community preparedness, resilient infrastructure and access to the right expertise can help councils respond quickly, support recovery and strengthen communities for future events.

Our 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗔𝗿𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗟𝗕𝟱𝟬𝟱, developed in consultation with Queensland local government and the Queensland Reconstruction Authority, provides councils with a streamlined pathway to access pre-qualified suppliers for specialist disaster management and recovery services.

These include:
▪️ Damage assessment
▪️ Recovery planning
▪️ Program management
▪️ Funding advisory
▪️ Grant writing
▪️ Response coordination and consultancy

By having an established procurement pathway in place, councils can reduce procurement timeframes when they need specialist support most.

Could your council explain why every term in their standard form contracts are reasonably necessary?

The Federal Court's recent $3.5 million penalty against CashnGo provides a timely reminder that unfair contract terms can carry significant consequences.

For councils, the decision highlights the importance of reviewing standard form contracts to ensure contractual protections are:
🔹 reasonably necessary to protect legitimate interests
🔹 proportionate to the risk being managed
🔹 transparent and easy to understand
🔹 balanced within the context of the contract as a whole

Our latest article by Local Buy’s General Counsel explores four key principles from the CashnGo decision and what they may mean for councils reviewing their contractual arrangements.

It also looks at how established contract conditions can help support transparent risk allocation and more efficient procurement.

We all need it to stay hydrated, but have you ever wondered how much communities need it to function?

From supply and distribution infrastructure, wastewater & sewerage treatment, keeping community fields green, to stormwater pipelines and water storage; communities need water.

To help Queensland councils deliver water infrastructure projects that benefit their communities, Local Buy has multiple established Arrangements covering a range of products and services, giving councils access to local suppliers.
