Penrith Lakes Stage 2 excursion
Last week, Stage 2 enjoyed a fabulous excursion to the Penrith Lakes Environmental Education Centre.
We learned all about how the lakes area was reclaimed for recreational use, and about the flourishing ecosystems now inhabiting it. Students completed fieldwork such as identifying birds native to the area and how the presence of birds can indicate resilience in the ecosystem. We also used dip-netting to collect samples of aquatic macroinvertebrates, such as small crustaceans, spiders and aquatic insects.
The students all exhibited wonderful behaviour, teamwork and a positive attitude (despite the very persistent rain!).
