Today marks two years since the tragedy at Apalachee High School-a day that forever changed our community.

We remember the lives of Mason Schermerhorn, Christian Angulo, Coach Richard Aspinwall, and Coach Cristina Irimie, and we continue to hold their families, those who were injured, and every student, educator, first responder, and community member impacted by that day close in our hearts.

Two years later, we continue to see the strength of a community that came together in the face of unimaginable loss. We will never forget those we lost, and we will continue to stand beside those who carry the impact of September 4.

From all of us at Barrow County Fire Department, we remember, we honor, and we stand together.

🚒🚁 Training Together

Barrow County Fire Department crews recently provided standby coverage during a Georgia National Guard training exercise involving helicopter hoist and rescue operations.

The exercise gave National Guard personnel the opportunity to conduct specialized rescue training while BCFD crews remained on standby to provide fire and EMS support throughout the operation.

Following the exercise, our crews were given a tour of the aircraft and an opportunity to learn more about its capabilities, equipment, and role in rescue operations.

Opportunities like this allow our personnel to gain a better understanding of the resources and capabilities of our partner agencies while building relationships that can prove valuable when we’re called to work together during real-world incidents.

We appreciate the Georgia National Guard for the opportunity to support their training and for taking the time to show our crews around the aircraft.
