The school was named for Oralia Rios Rodriguez who was a long time teacher in Seguin. She was the daughter of migrant farm worker parents who had a strong belief in the importance of education. She graduated from Southwest Texas State Teacher's College in San Marcos in 1939 and later completed her master's degree as well.
