The basket-making workshops for Community in Conversation: Carrying African American Basket Traditions are SOLD OUT, but there’s more hands-on art to explore around Savannah on November 7!

Join our friends from the Historic Savannah Foundation at the Davenport House Museum Fall Arts Festival for hands-on art activities led by local artists and artisans, live music, a collaborative community art project, and more. “A man within a woman, even more a god.”

Michelangelo used these words to describe Vittoria Colonna, the noblewoman, poet, and intellectual with whom he shared a remarkable friendship.

Join Dr. Emily Fenichel, Associate Professor of Art History at Florida Atlantic University, for ‘A Man Within a Woman: Vittoria Colonna and Michelangelo’s Friendship.’ Through a nearly decade-long exchange of letters, poems, and drawings, discover the relationship that connected two influential figures of the Italian Renaissance.

How do we keep a tradition alive? Through the people who practice it, the knowledge they share, and the stories passed from one generation to the next.

This November, Telfair Museums brings together basketmakers, scholars, educators, and community members for ‘Community in Conversation: Carrying African American Basket Traditions.’

Across three days, explore the history, artistry, and continuing evolution of African American basketmaking through panel discussions, workshops, a lecture and more!

Join us November 5–7 at the Jepson Center and Telfair Academy as we celebrate a tradition woven deeply into the cultural fabric of the Lowcountry.

Free and open to the public, with select programs requiring separate registration.
