Councilmember David Penaloza Santa Ana Councilmember and Candidate for the California State Assembly in the 68th AD. David is currently employed by Color Science, Inc. in Santa Ana.

The son of Mexican immigrants in search of the American dream, David Penaloza was born and raised in Santa Ana, CA. At a very young age, David lost his father Ublester in a car accident, leaving his mother Paula with three young boys, and brand new mortgage to take care of all on her own. Aside from keeping the lights and water on, she worried that without a father figure, her kids will be unattended to, and end up in gangs, possibly dropout of school, and lose their home. Well, with her tenacity, faith, and impeccable work ethic, she put her kids through grade school and college, and managed to pay off her mortgage eight years early. David is a product of the Santa Ana Unified School District, having attended Washington Elementary (1999), MacArthur Fundamental (2002), and graduating from Saddleback High School in 2006. While in high school, he had his first job working in Downtown Santa Ana at his aunt's business on La calle Cuatro (4th Street), Mina Bridal Boutique. There his aunt and uncle reaffirmed what his mother instilled in him as a child, that through hard work and determination, fulfilling your dreams is possible. He went on to work at various places throughout Orange County including Main Place Mall, and Disneyland. David graduated from California State University, Los Angeles in 2011 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English with an emphasis in writing. While attending college in LA he also went through The Groundlings School of Improv and pursued his passion for acting. Being represented by talent agents, and going on hundreds of auditions, he booked multiple National commercials and campaigns for both the English and Spanish markets. These included commercials for Toyota, Wells Fargo, American Idol, as well as local industrial commercials and various media for Taco Bell, Major League Soccer, UEI College, and Irvine Valley College. David is currently a SAG-AFTRAmj member and still actively auditions til this day. While there, he was a key player in getting both sister companies accredited to International Standards Organization (ISO). He's also been exposed to, and has worked in several different departments throughout the company and is currently a Senior Regulatory Engineer. David enjoys volunteering his free time to mentoring students at his Alma Mater, being a panelist during their Senior Exit Interviews, and participating in improv exercises at Leadership conferences held for kids. David's perfect down time is spent by going for a run along our local beaches with his dog Jax, checking out the local breweries for some craft beer, cheering on the Anaheim Ducks, and briefly turning his friends into enemies over a good old game of UNO.

It’s the final countdown! We’ve been part of this campaign since the beginning of the year, making thousands of phone calls, sending texts, and knocking on doors. With over 100 volunteers, we’ve built new friendships and worked to make a real impact. With David Penaloza in the State Assembly, we know there will be a champion fighting for the people in Sacramento that will address the affordability crisis, protect our children at school, and make sure everyone has a place to live, so we can build stronger communities and make change at all levels.

I’ll never forget being 17 years old when my friends and I were T-boned by an uninsured drunk driver right here in Santa Ana. I ended up in the ER with fractured ribs, a broken clavicle, and punctured lungs and kidneys. And you know what my first thought was? That I couldn’t get in that ambulance because it was going to cost my mom money. I was terrified, because I knew we didn’t have health insurance, and I knew we couldn’t afford the hospital bill. I’ll never forget the stress on her face and how helpless I felt when that $65,000 bill eventually arrived in the mail. (👉🏽 swipe to see me after I got moved out of the ER, 2005) While my opponent continues to dedicate her social media posts to attacking me and spreading lies, I’m focused on the issues that actually matter to our families. This morning, I toured one of our local hospitals in Assembly District 68 and met with doctors and nurses about the devastating impact federal healthcare and Medicaid cuts are having on our communities.

California is the 4th largest economy in the world, and our healthcare system should reflect that. We shouldn’t have hours long ER waits, ambulances backed up at intake, or hospital beds lining hallways because there simply isn’t enough room. And no family should EVER have to choose between getting medical care and financial ruin.

I’m running for State Assembly because I’ve lived that reality, and I know firsthand what’s at stake. Sacramento must do more to protect healthcare funding, expand access to affordable care, and ensure our hospitals have the resources they need to serve our families. I’m incredibly proud to be endorsed by the nurses and physicians who care for our community every single day, and I’ll be fighting alongside them in Sacramento. 👊🏽❤️👩🏽‍⚕️👨🏻‍⚕️🏥

🍪 1.3 MILLION chocolate chip cookies. EVERY SINGLE DAY! And they’re being baked right here in Santa Ana! 🤯 Did you know that Aspire Bakeries, located right here in Assembly District 68, produces an incredible 1.3 MILLION chocolate chip cookies every day to supply McDonald’s restaurants across North America?! 👉🏽 swipe to see! I recently had the opportunity to tour their facility alongside local family franchisees, and let me tell you, we were all blown away! All of this happening inside a relatively small building, operating 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and supporting over 120 LOCAL JOBS! THIS is the kind of business we need to fight to keep in California! California didn’t become the 4th largest economy in the world by accident. It’s businesses like Aspire Bakeries, and the hardworking people behind them, that help make our Golden State an economic powerhouse. But we cannot take that for granted. As a state, we need to do a MUCH better job of making it easier for businesses of all sizes and across every industry to start, grow, and thrive right here at home. That means cutting unnecessary red tape, keeping operating costs competitive, and making sure California businesses aren’t forced to consider relocating to other states or across our southern border just to stay competitive. Every business we lose means jobs, economic opportunities, and investments leaving our communities. We should be doing everything we can to KEEP those jobs here, CREATE more of them, and ensure California remains a place where businesses WANT to invest and grow. Thank you to the Aspire Bakeries team for the incredible tour and shoutout to the production manager Mondo, a Santa Ana resident and Santiago High graduate. 💯🙌🏽
