Can you spot two things these bike riders are wearing to help them stay safe as they head out for a ride?

🦺 High-visibility vests: Wear bright clothing or something reflective when you ride, to make yourself as visible as possible to drivers. Be bright, be seen!

🧠 Helmets: Wearing a properly fitted helmet when you ride helps protect your brain! Swipe to see how to check that your helmet fits just right.

May is Bike Month is a campaign where we celebrate our local bike culture and encourage new and experienced riders to replace their car trips with bike trips. The average car trip to run errands is 1-3 miles. This is a distance perfect for cycling.

May is Bike Month, but the movement is bigger than a month. We're inspired by the leaders and organizations making space for BIPOC voices in cycling and fighting for a biking culture rooted in equity and mobility justice. If you haven't already, go ahead and give Yolanda Davis-Overstreet a follow!

On May 9, Civic Thread hosted Friendship Park’s Groundbreaking Event in partnership with Yuba County Public Works to say goodbye to the site as we know it, and celebrate the exciting beautification to come! 🛝🌳

Special thank you to our speakers who helped set the tone for the event and gave background on how projects that benefit the community can come to fruition, and how community voices and cultural connections will stay at the heart of this beautification process. 🤝 We’re especially grateful to our community partners for helping connect residents with resources for housing, early childhood and family support, bike and pedestrian safety, free helmet fittings, community health, and more. 🧡

We loved to see families walking and biking to the park and spending the weekend with us. While the park is under construction, Civic Thread will continue to share bike and pedestrian education, conduct more helmet fittings in West Linda, host a local art competition, as well as fun walk and bike days. We’re excited for the improvements ahead and look forward to welcoming the renovated Friendship Park in 2027! 🎉
