Your degree opened doors in your home country. Here, it's like it never existed. 🎓

September 8th, that changes. We're hosting a workshop where your foreign credentials finally get the recognition they deserve, presented by Olga Prizhilov, Director of Refugee Career Pathways at Los Rios Community College District. This is the day your qualifications start working for you again.

What career would you pursue if your degree was recognized here? 💼

We are excited to welcome Gene, our new STEM instructor, to the REDA team.

Gene brings years of youth environmental education experience to our program. This fall, she will be guiding our students through hands-on lessons designed to build environmental STEM knowledge and inspire youth stewardship, made possible through the Outdoor Equity Grant.

Our first lesson this week covers sprouting beans.

Details for the fall semester:

Program: Open to Homework Club students (15 students per session, instruction in English)

Location: REDA Office, 3425 Arden Way

If you have a student who isn't currently enrolled in Homework Club but would like to join these STEM sessions, please call the REDA office to ask about availability.

Please help us give Gene a warm welcome! What STEM topics would you like to see our students learn about this fall?

🚪 The hardest part of starting over isn't the language barrier or finding work, it's knowing where to turn when you need help.

Our General Social Services team walks neighborhoods, answers helpline calls, and meets families at community events because we know that one conversation can change everything. When a newly arrived family learns they're not alone, that mental health support, ESL classes, youth programs, and emergency assistance are all within reach, doors start opening. 💙

and suddenly a family that was struggling in silence is connected to the village they didn't know existed.

💬 What's one way you could help open doors for someone new to Sacramento?

When you're building a life in a new country, your children carry two worlds on their shoulders, the culture of home and the future they're creating here.

🌍 Through our Youth Mentoring program, we pair young people with guides who understand that journey, helping them navigate school, career paths, and leadership opportunities without losing who they are. we're building our community's next generation of teachers, doctors, and leaders.

💬 What quality do you think makes the biggest difference in a young person's life , encouragement, opportunity, or someone who believes in them?

Starting over in a new country means carrying invisible weight, grief for what was left behind, fear of what's ahead, and the pressure to stay strong for your family. 💙

At REDA, our Your Health Matters program creates a safe space where mental health support understands your journey, speaks your language, and honors your culture. Healing isn't one-size-fits-all, and seeking help isn't weakness, it's courage. ✨

We're here to walk alongside you, because mental wellness matters just as much as every other part of rebuilding your life.

What does culturally safe mental health care mean to you?

🗣️ Language shouldn't decide whether someone can access healthcare, enroll their child in school, or ask for help.
At REDA, we provide education and language support to immigrants facing language barriers because everyone deserves to be heard and understood. Our Education Center in Sacramento is where confidence grows, one conversation at a time ✨

What's one thing you wish more people understood about learning a new language as an adult?

Between managing home, family, work, and everything in between, when was the last time you took a moment just for you? 💙

Tomorrow at REDA Center, we've created a space where you can pause, breathe, and connect with other women who understand. Whether you join us at 10:30 AM for Afghan Women's Café or 12:30 PM for Arab Women's Café, this time is yours, to recharge, share, and remember you matter too. Plus, raffle and prizes because showing up for yourself deserves celebrating! ✨

What's one thing you're looking forward to letting go of tomorrow, even just for a little while?

When you can't ask for help in your own words, every day feels like a test you didn't study for. 📚 Language as much about communication as it is about dignity, independence, and bridging the gap to true connection in a new home.

REDA provides education and language support to immigrants facing language barriers here in Sacramento, because we know that English proficiency unlocks everything else: advocating for your kids at school, understanding your rights at work, building real friendships.
✨ Learning a new language as an adult takes courage, and we see that courage in our students every single day.

What's one thing you wish you could say more confidently in English - or what do you remember from learning a new language yourself? 💬
