Yesterday at the Vermont Urban and Community Forestry Conference in Randolph, VELCO marked 20 consecutive years as a Tree Line USA designee.

Tree Line USA, a program of the Arbor Day Foundation, celebrates utilities that follow best practices in utility arboriculture, supporting reliability, sustainability, and the communities they serve.

This milestone is a testament to the dedication and hard work of our vegetation management team, whose commitment to excellence makes recognition like this possible year after year.

Throwback Thursday ⚡
This week, we’re looking back at the construction of the transmission line connecting our North Rutland substation to New York during 1957–1958.

From building the lines to the groundwork below, these photos capture the incredible amount of hands-on effort and determination it took to complete projects like these.

While the tools and technology have evolved over the years, the hard work, knowledge, and dedication behind powering our region remain the same.

Enjoy these glimpses into VELCO’s history? Stay tuned for future Throwback Thursday posts as we continue sharing more vintage photos and stories from past projects.

Vermont finally got the “summer switch” this week. ☀️🌲

Warmer weather often means increased electricity use throughout the day as homes and businesses try to stay cool. It’s a good reminder of how much coordination goes into keeping the grid reliable during high demand periods.⚡

⚡ Vermont Utility Edition ⚡

Would you rather…
🚁 Inspect transmission lines by helicopter
OR
🚜 Access remote sites by utility terrain vehicle?

Both play an important role in helping our teams safely maintain Vermont’s transmission system, but which would you choose?

May is Electrical Safety Month — a reminder that simple precautions can help prevent serious injuries at home, at work, and outdoors.

⚡ Electrical Safety Tips:
• Stay at least 10 feet away from downed power lines and always assume they are energized
• Call Dig Safe 811 before digging to avoid striking underground utilities
• Never overload outlets or extension cords
• Keep ladders, tools, and equipment safely away from overhead power lines

Safety starts with awareness. Let’s work together to keep our communities safe this month and every month.
