This week’s Yiddish Puppet Storytime was a beautiful program between two worlds! ❤️ Thanks to UCSD literature professor, Ainsley Morse for introducing basic Yiddish words and letters to our families through the multi-lingual children’s book, “Beautiful Yetta” by Daniel Pinkwater. Our Spanish bilingual speakers in the audience excitedly helped Ainsley translate some words and it was so special to see them relate! We also want to give a huge thanks to Nicole Cloeren who taught kids how to make their puppets “fly” based on a beautiful Yiddish lullaby about a mother’s love. Peace-minded artwork displayed around the room was created by local artist, Arina Kirilina. Nicole accurately captured this program as a creative combination of thoughts, art, languages, communication and culture. We look forward to presenting our patrons with more thoughtful programs like this one!

Presented as part of the Yiddish Book Center’s Public Libraries Program, in partnership with the ALA and funded by the Lilly Endowment, Inc.

A special message from our Storytime Leader, Tania: “For the past two years, I have had the most wonderful experience leading storytime and children’s programming at Highgrove Library. Sadly, this week’s storytime was my last. I want to express my most sincere gratitude for all the kids, families, and individuals that I have met and shared laughs, stories and memories that I will take with me. It has truly been magical serving the community of Highgrove! Thank you! With love, Miss Tania. ❤️”

Thank you for creating such a magical storytime space for our little ones! We wish Tania the best of luck on her future adventures. 🫶🏻

We partnered with Loma Linda Swap & Meet to host a Linocut Stamp Workshop this past Saturday ⭐️🎨 We had so many talented artists come out to learn the basics of linocut print making! Each patron chose their own design to trace, carve, and stamp onto a paper of their choosing. We loved seeing everyone stamp and share their designs with new friends!

We want to give a huge thanks to Debora for being a phenomenal linocut teacher and for so generously providing all of the supplies to get us started. 🫶🏻 Let us know if you’d like to see us host another workshop together in the comments below!
