King Conservation District is a special purpose district, funded by you, with a mission to promote the sustainable use of natural resources through responsible stewardship in King County. We provide technical assistance to private residents in forest management, farm conservation planning, wildfire preparedness, and streamside and shoreline enhancement. We also work with cities and other organizations to support community gardens, urban forest canopy, and local food systems. You don’t have to go it alone, your local conservation district can help.

As part of our summer education series, local farmers and community members joined KCD at Oxbow Farm & Conservation Center to learn about how working farms like Oxbow are adapting for climate resilience and water conservation. Tour guests heard from Oxbow’s agriculture manager and education team, as well as Washington State Climate Office, and KCD’s Climate Special Projects Coordinator while touring the farm.

The tour explored methods of integrating conservation into everyday farming practices like dialing water-use to grow vegetables during a peak summer droughts and trialing summer cover crops to maintain soil productivity. Part of the tour also focused on resources available for farmers to help them conserve water and adapt to changing weather patterns in Western Washington.

Thanks to Oxbow Farm for sharing their knowledge and experience!

Fall is here, and winter is coming, but you can start thinking about beautifying your home and neighborhood next spring with native plants from KCD’s annual Native Plant Sale!

The 2027 Native Plant Store preview begins November 3, 2026. You can view our full list of available plants and plan out a restoration vision for your yard.

The online store will open and accept orders starting at 9:00am November 17, 2026.

We have limited inventory and sell out of many of our plant species in the first week. Be sure to order early for the best availability!

Orders will be available for pickup at the Tukwila Community Center February 27, 2027, with rolling pickups occurring earlier that week. All sales are pre-order/pre-purchase only. We do not offer walk-up sale of plants during the pick-up dates.

Planting native bareroot plants at your home or business is an affordable way to level up your greenspace and also helps your community. When you plant native, you contribute to community-level restoration that reforests neighborhoods, repairs wildlife and native pollinator habitat, enhances streambanks, and promotes the unique natural beauty of our Northwest home.

The plants from our sale come as bareroot stock because they are harvested in winter when they are dormant and ready to be replanted. Bareroot plants are affordable, hardy, have well-developed roots, and are easy to handle, transport, and replant.
