World Elder Abuse Awareness Day is June 15th

World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD) was launched by the International Network for the Prevention of Elder Abuse in 2006 and recognized as a United Nations Observance in 2011. This day provides an opportunity for communities around the world to promote a better understanding of abuse and neglect of older persons by raising awareness of the cultural, social, economic, and demographic processes affecting elder abuse, neglect, and exploitation.

Our friends at DMH/DD/SUS are offering several webinars in June that offer practical training and caregiver support.

April 16th is National Health Care Decisions Day.

Governor Josh Stein proclaimed April 2026 as Healthcare Decision Month in North Carolina.

During a medical emergency, healthcare personnel rely on family members to determine what a patient's wishes might be. Family members often struggle to make these difficult decisions. It is a gift to your loved ones to let them know your healthcare wishes if you become unable to care for yourself.

Here are a few resources in North Carolina that offer information to help you understand advanced directives such as a Living Will and Healthcare Power of Attorney.

Transitions LifeCare - NC , a Coalition member, hosts Advanced Care Planning Workshops throughout the year. If you are interested, please contact them at [email protected] or visit their website at https://www.transitionslifecare.org/

The North Carolina Serious Illness Coalition ,a Coalition member, offers a video series that includes questions and answers on advanced care planning. Visit their website:
