🚨 Urgent Need: Drinking Cups 🚨
High Temperatures mean we're going through a lot of cups keeping our guests hydrated. We can also use other paper products like plates, napkins, and coffee cups. Socks and underwear also remain in high demand.
If you're able to donate, please drop off items at 3211 Bramer Dr between 10 am and 2 pm on weekdays, or order from our amazon wish list: https://buff.ly/qaUSYeV

✨ Volunteer Spotlight: Kai ✨
Kai's first time volunteering with us was today, and it left a lasting impression. After searching online for opportunities to support women in North Carolina, Kai found the Women's Center's breakfast program and knew, "This looks perfect."
Kai spent the morning preparing and serving breakfast for around 70 residents, an experience that turned out to be far more doable and meaningful than expected. "It really felt like giving back to the community and making sure people had a hot meal to eat."
The most memorable part of the day came after breakfast, when Kai sat down for a conversation with Donna, one of the women at the Center. "I got to give her a hug. She talked about her siblings and her brother's passing. Sometimes we have to get those things out and share them. I'm always a listening ear for people."
Kai plans to provide more meals in the future, drawn to the strong sense of community at the Women's Center. "It definitely seems like there's a community here, and that's being fostered."
We are grateful to Kai for sharing their time and heart with our community 💜

✨ Client Story: Sallie ✨
Sallie has been coming to the Women's Center for about a year, after hearing about it from another woman at another community programs. Before finding the Center, she describes feeling a little lost — unsure of where to turn or who to trust.
Today, that's changed. Sallie has built real connections and knows exactly where to go when she needs support. "I know more people, more connections," she shared. "I know where to go if I'm hungry."
Sallie says what she appreciates most is simply knowing she has a place that is safe to be present - along with the clothing and resources that help her meet her everyday needs.
Her advice to other women experiencing homelessness: "Keep your head up. Stay positive. What doesn't kill you makes you stronger, and just pray."

✨ Client Story: Jamie ✨
Jamie was referred to the Women's Center by her caseworker after a difficult chapter in her life left her without housing or a support system to lean on. With her family unable to help and limited options available, the Women's Center became something Jamie didn't expect: a place where people genuinely cared.
The relationships Jamie has built here have made all the difference. Staff members have been especially instrumental in her journey. In Jamie's own words, "Amy and Sophie have been a lifeline to me, just putting people and resources in my path so that I don't have to be in my car."
Jamie describes the staff and community at the Women's Center as "optimistic, very caring, and compassionate."
We thank Jamie for sharing her story 💜

✨ Board Member Spotlight: London Tessener ✨
London was introduced to the Women's Center two years ago on a tour through the NC Women's Affordable Housing Network. In her career she shows her passion for fair housing by representing developers on low-income housing tax credit projects. However, London likes to show her commitment to the community more directly, and started bringing dinners to our Recuperative Respite program.
Her favorite memory has been a cookie decorating event with the women in the Respite program, where she also had a chance to hear stories firsthand. One woman shared how she had been living in a tent for seven years before a storm washed everything away, and how grateful she was to the Women's Center for giving her a place to get back on her feet.
London says the Respite program holds a special place in her heart because of the unique gap it fills. "It's really wonderful what the Women's Center is doing by providing a space for these women to recover from surgery safely - with meals and basic needs provided - so that they can get back on the right road to recovery."

We are grateful for London being a part of our board 💜

✨ Client Story: Leigh ✨
Leigh came to the Women's Center last week, and she already feels the difference. Navigating homelessness as a single woman without children, Leigh found that resources elsewhere were hard to come by. At the Women's Center, she found a place focused on helping women like her — walking her through services, connecting her with food stamp support, and giving her a community to lean on.
In just a few days, Leigh even reconnected with a friend she hadn't seen in two years. "I've seen her every day I've come now," she shared.
Leigh says, "Take advantage of every resource that you can possibly find."
We thank Leigh for sharing her story 💜
