Under the Trump administration, we are witnessing an intensified assault on civil liberties against immigrant communities, freedom of speech, the right to protest, labor organizing, public education, due process, and other rights that generations of people fought to secure.

In response to this escalation, we immigrants, unionists, activists, grassroots organizations and progressive people all over the U.S. are attending this Summit and doubling down in the national movement against ICE terror.

Eight Brown and RI organizations have joined the call. Brown University Health’s decision to hire former head of Border Patrol Chief Operating Officer Jason Owens as VP of security is an affront to our community. It is disgusting that after nearly two years of a mass movement against immigration enforcement here in Rhode Island, Brown University Health would hire someone who has led a system of intimidation and violence against immigrants.

Nearly every Rhode Islander is either an employee or patient of Brown University Health, or a student of Brown University. All of us have to be part of the struggle to fire Jason Owens.

Haiti lights the way! The Haitian revolution is the blueprint for our struggles for freedom today.

Last Saturday, more than 60 people packed in to discuss the lessons of the first successful revolution in the Western hemisphere, when enslaved Africans cast off the chains of slavery, defeated their French colonizers, and declared independence. This inspired struggles for liberation worldwide.

Despite US attempts to exploit and divide Haiti and the Dominican Republic today, solidarity is growing. Working people in Haiti, the DR, and the US all demand: Hands off TPS. US out of Haiti. US out of DR.

This Black August, we’re going back to August 1791 to learn about the uprising of enslaved Africans that led to the founding of the first Black republic in the Western Hemisphere. The Haitian Revolution has been an inspiration to oppressed people across the world who have fought for freedom for the past 200 years. Join us for this free community educational event to explore lessons from the Haitian revolution, histories of Haitian and Dominican solidarity, and the struggle to liberate the island from U.S. intervention today.

We gathered in Jacque's Offset Bidon’s studio last weekend to honor Black August in the radical tradition of printmaking! Together, we studied the history and significance of Black August and discussed the role of revolutionary art in advancing the struggle for Black liberation.

Join us this Saturday evening for our final event this Black August, “Viv Ayiti, Viv Kiskeya,” a community educational forum where we will study the Haitian revolution, histories of Haitian and Dominican solidarity, and the struggle to liberate the island from U.S. intervention today!

Fully fund RIPTA — no new bus hub! Money for people’s transport, not millionaire developers!

On August 20, the RIPTA Board of Directors voted to move the bus hub out of Kennedy Plaza. This move will upend the lives of over 42,000 Rhode Islanders who depend on RIPTA every day.

Under pressure from both Democrats and Republicans and their corporate backers, the RIPTA Board has spent years trying to move the bus hub behind closed doors. Throughout that process, riders have consistently opposed the relocation and have been denied any meaningful say in decisions about the future of their public transportation system.

We deserve a system where our public transportation and other government agencies are accountable to the people, not the billionaires.

Last weekend, we observed Black August through studying its history in the prisoner struggle, writing letters to comrades behind the walls, training in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, and making commitments to the four principles of this revolutionary month: fast, study, train, fight.

The tradition of Black August emphasizes self-cultivation not as an individualized practice, but rather as part of a collective movement for Black liberation and the freedom of all oppressed peoples. Black August teaches us that our people have never only endured the violence of capitalism — we have fought, and we will continue to fight to build a different world.

We are fighting for the world that George Jackson, his younger brother Jonathan, and generations of Black revolutionaries struggled to bring into being until their final moments. The only way to honor their legacies is to carry our struggle forward until victory.

Join us for a Black August Print Studio this Saturday, 12-4pm at 3 Acorn St, where we will discuss the role of art in our liberation struggles and deepen our commitment to the movement through artmaking!
