Today Captain Ryan Robin and Asst Fire Chief Joby Thomassee visited Port Barre Head start, Montessori School, and Port Barre Elementary (Kindergarten and 1st grade) for some fire safety classes. Captain Robin gave the children great information on all things fire safety. They also got to see some tools the fire service uses during emergencies. Finally, they seen the Deck Gun of the fire truck in action.

Captain Robin is amazing at these classes for the small children. He has a way of keeping them engaged in the class material. We seen some exceptionally smart children today. The future is bright. 😎😎😎

Assistant Chief Anthony Sostand has the crew (Captain Ryan Robin, Captain Robby Soileau, and Firefighter/Operator Logan Stelly) repainting some of the parking lines around the station. Today they are working on the red lines which means no parking for public use. These are fire personnel only.

Good jobs guys. If you pass and see them hard at work give them a honk.

Captain Ryan Robin gave a fire safety class for the pre-K students at Port Barre Elementary school. Students seen the tools we use for various emergencies, got some good advice from Captain Robin, and got to see the fire truck deck gun in action.

The students were a joy for Captain Robin to teach. Thank you Port Barre Elementary staff for having us over. We love to see the joy and excitement on the youths’ faces.

🚨 BURN BAN IN EFFECT 🚨

St. Landry Parish Government has issued a burn ban effective immediately for the unincorporated areas of St. Landry Parish due to dry conditions and the increased risk of fires.

🔥 Prohibited:
• Burning yard debris or household trash
• Open-air bonfires and burn barrels
• Fireworks, sky lanterns and similar incendiary devices

✅ Permitted:
• Gas, propane and charcoal grills used safely
• Recreational fires in approved fire pits, as allowed by law
• Qualifying agricultural and certified prescribed burns

Individuals conducting authorized agricultural or controlled burns should notify their nearest fire district and 911 dispatch.

⚠️ The burn ban will remain in effect until further notice. Violators may be cited by St. Landry Parish Government’s Code Enforcement Department and required to appear before the parish’s Hearing Officer. Full press release will be posted in the comments below.

Please be mindful of the people’s property. Bayou Courtableau is rising it may cross the road in some lower areas please do not travel down these roads unless you absolutely need to be there. The wake can cause more water damage to people’s property. If you are not emergency responders please stay out of these areas.

🔥 BURN BAN LIFTED – ST. LANDRY PARISH 🔥

St. Landry Parish Government announces that the parishwide burn ban issued on February 13, 2026, has been lifted effective immediately.

Residents are still encouraged to exercise caution when conducting any outdoor burning and remain mindful of changing weather conditions.

🚨🚨🚨 Alert to all St. Landry Parish residents we just received word that the Parish Government has just issued a parish wide burn ban. No burning until further notice. The rain that we are expecting this weekend will not be enough to damper fire conditions. Below is the email we just received.
