🚨🚨🚨 Alert to all St. Landry Parish residents we just received word that the Parish Government has just issued a parish wide burn ban. No burning until further notice. The rain that we are expecting this weekend will not be enough to damper fire conditions. Below is the email we just received.

If lighting outside fires please be very careful with these windy conditions. We had a grass fire a couple of days ago in our responding area where we had to get help from 2 other agencies. Since then the St. Landry 911 communication center has been paging out department after department for grass fires throughout the parish. Just be mindful. Things can get out of hand very quickly.

Red Devil Media, Coach D, and Ms. Jayde thanks for coming over and talking a little fire talk this morning. We had a great time before our monthly fire drill. Also thanks to FF/Operator Logan Stelly for demonstrating a 2 minute drill. Jayde also killed her own 2 minute drill.

🔥 BURN BAN LIFTED 🔥

St. Landry Parish Government has officially lifted the parishwide burn ban, effective immediately. Recent rainfall and improved weather conditions have reduced fire risks across the parish, allowing safe resumption of outdoor burning.

We want to thank everyone for your cooperation and caution during the burn ban — your efforts helped protect our homes, land, and first responders. 🙏

Please remember to always burn responsibly and follow all state and local fire safety regulations.

Messaging around smoke alarms and batteries is more nuanced now that newer smoke alarms often feature 10-year batteries.

For those ending this weekend, change clocks and check batteries, only if needed. Test smoke alarms monthly.

🔥 BURN BAN IN EFFECT FOR ST. LANDRY PARISH 🔥

Due to increasingly dry conditions and high winds expected this weekend, St. Landry Parish Government has issued a parishwide burn ban, effective Wednesday, October 8, 2025, until further notice.

🚫 The ban includes any activity involving an open flame that produces embers, as wind can easily carry embers beyond the original fire and start new spot fires.

Exceptions:
✔️Outdoor cooking on grills
✔️Prescribed burns certified by the Department of Agriculture and Forestry

Please do your part to help keep St. Landry Parish safe and fire-free during this time.

Thanks to all who assisted. Our department is sending condolences to the family impacted by this tragic incident.
