National First Responder Day! 🇺🇸 🚒🚑🚓

At 4:26am on 10-12-26, we were paged out for mutual aid with Motley FD for a report of large hay bales on fire. We responded with 4 trucks & 13 firefighters. Our crew was on scene for 10 hours & put out over 42,000 gallons of water*. *That does not include what Motley FD or the MN DNR did.

Heavy equipment operators were called to assist with dozers & excavators to help rip apart the large round bales. This was a massive fire with over 1,000 bales of hay lost.

We want to send out a special and heartfelt THANK YOU to all of you who made sure we were fed & hydrated! We had donuts, coffee, breakfast sandwiches, hamburgers, chili, Gatorade’s & water! We aren’t sure where all of it came from, but we sure did appreciate it! Nobody likes a hangry firefighter 😉! We are very humbled by everyone who made that happen. And to the kiddos who actually made chocolate chip cookies for all of us firefighters; you kids are the real MVP’s!!! That was such a nice gesture & a wonderful way to help!!

To the family that is affected by this, we are very sorry you have to go through this. We are just glad that nobody was hurt & there were no animals or equipment lost.

Last nights training was a Firefighter Down scenario. We were in teams of 3. Entry team was to go in, with full SCBA & masks blacked out, and find the lone victim. Sounds easy, right? Nope! Not when you’re dragging a charged hose line, listening for fire (yes, that speaker was LOUD & sounded real), navigating obstacles, communicating with your teammates & trying to find “Fred”, our 175lb victim- who was also incidentally in full turnout gear (that adds 50 lbs).

It was fantastic training, knowledge & techniques, & great lessons learned. It also enhances our crew cohesiveness & bonding. When we train together, we do better together. And last night was proof that we have one hell of a dedicated crew!

Extra thanks to Firefighter Tom who worked hard to make sure it was realistic & sharing his 33 1/2 years of experiences with all of us!

A number of Minnesota firefighters who passed away over the last year were remembered this weekend during a memorial service from the Minnesota State Fire Department Association. The service was held this weekend at Breezy Point, Minnesota. Those remembered included our former Fire Chief Randy Lee.

You will never be forgotten, Randy. 🚒
