**Community Partnerships Make a Difference!**

The Ozark Fire Protection District recently had the opportunity to assist Christian County Emergency Management with a fire safety and emergency preparedness presentation for students at Lake Hills Academy.

As part of the presentation, Christian County Emergency Management brought their smoke safety trailer, which allowed students to experience a simulated smoke-filled environment and practice safely escaping through a bedroom window. This hands-on training provided students with an opportunity to learn how to react during a fire and why having a home fire escape plan is so important.

Throughout the presentation, students learned about the dangers of smoke, the importance of staying low when escaping a fire, and the need to identify two ways out of every room. These are important lessons that can make a difference during a real emergency.

Public education and community risk reduction are important parts of our mission at the Ozark Fire Protection District. Providing students with hands-on learning experiences helps reinforce fire safety practices and gives them the knowledge and confidence to respond appropriately during an emergency.

We appreciate Christian County Emergency Management for providing the smoke trailer and working alongside us to deliver this valuable training. Partnerships like these allow our agencies to combine resources and provide meaningful educational opportunities throughout our community.

Crews responded to a possible structure fire on Parched Corn Rd this morning. Logan-Rogersville Fire Chief 3 was first arriving, reporting difficult access to a working structure fire with smoke and fire showing. The structure was a vacant 2 story home approximately 600 feet off the road with a narrow drive with fallen trees, up a large hill. Crews from Ozark, Sparta Fire, Logan-Rogersville Fire, and Battlefield stretched over 800 feet of hose to attack the fire and provide water supply from the roadway. The structure was heavily damaged. Christian County 911, Cox EMS, Christian County Fire Corps and neighbors with utility vehicles provided support. Nixa Fire assisted with covering the Ozark district during the incident. Thank you to all who asssited.

Christian County Missouri burn ban rules (2026)

🔥 COUNTY-WIDE BURN BAN IN EFFECT 🔥
The Christian County Commission has enacted a countywide burn ban because of severe, extreme, or exceptional drought conditions. The order was signed on October 15, 2026, and is effective immediately.

What’s banned:
🚫 Burning trash, brush, leaves, limbs, stumps, and grass clippings
🚫 Burn barrels
🚫 Agricultural burning (fence rows, weeds, crop stubble)
🚫 Burning construction debris, treated or painted wood, plastics, tires, furniture, appliances, and hazardous materials

What’s still allowed:
✅ Grilling or cooking with charcoal, wood, propane, or natural gas
✅ Heating devices inside a home or building

Good to know:
The ban applies to unincorporated areas and to any city within the county without its own open-burning ordinance.

No burning within 50 feet of combustible material, except for grills.
Exceptions are only allowed with a permit issued by the fire department with jurisdiction. Permits are issued at the department’s discretion.

Violations are a Class A misdemeanor, punishable by up to 365 days in jail and/or a fine of up to $2,000. You’re also responsible for fire suppression costs and any damage caused.

The order expires in 30 days (around November 14, 2026) unless the Commission extends it or ends it sooner.

Dry conditions mean a small spark can become a big fire fast. Please help keep our community safe. If you have questions about burning or permits, contact the Ozark Fire Protection District.

🚒🔥 And that’s a wrap on Fire Prevention Week! 🔥🚒

We had a great week visiting schools, connecting with students, and teaching our youngest community members important fire safety skills! From exploring the fire trucks to learning how to stay safe in an emergency, we’re proud to help build a safer community, one classroom at a time. ❤️

A big thank you to our local schools, teachers, and students for welcoming us!

Remember: Fire safety starts with YOU! 🧯🏠

🚨🔥 PLEASE DO NOT BURN! 🔥🚨

Firefighters across Christian County are currently responding to multiple emergencies, ranging from structure fires to large outdoor fires.

Current conditions are NOT suitable for open burning. Low humidity, dry vegetation, and high winds create dangerous conditions that allow fires to spread rapidly and quickly grow beyond your ability to control them.

We strongly encourage all residents to avoid outdoor burning until conditions improve.

Before conducting any outdoor burning, please check current weather conditions and contact your local fire district to verify burning restrictions and obtain any required authorization.

Our firefighters are working hard to protect lives and property throughout Christian County. Please do your part to prevent unnecessary emergencies and help keep our communities and first responders safe.

Be Fire Wise. Don’t Burn.

Thank you for helping us keep Christian County safe!
