Our Oxnard Lowrider/Car Club community visited the Oxnard Police Station yesterday to thank Chief Benites for his support and wish him a happy retirement.

Former Oxnard Police Chief Scott Whitney and future Oxnard Police Chief Rocky Marquez were also on hand as the groups presented Chief Benites with a plaque that read: "Ventura County Car Clubs Appreciation Award - Given to Chief Jason Benites. Thank you for your many years of dedication to our city and for your mutual respect and friendship with the Oxnard Lowrider community. We wish you a wonderful retirement."

Chief Benites noted: "I was very moved by you all showing up. The lowrider community in Oxnard is a very positive influence in making Oxnard a better place, and I sincerely thank you for that."

Strong communities are built on relationships and a shared commitment to making a positive difference. Over the years, the partnership between the Oxnard Police Department and our local lowrider and car club community has demonstrated just how meaningful those connections can be.

Law enforcement and community members may serve our city in different ways, but we share a common goal: making Oxnard a safer and better place for everyone.

We are grateful to our lowrider and car club community for their friendship and the pride they bring to our city. Moments like these remind us that community policing is about more than public safety. It's about building relationships that make a difference for generations to come.

Oxnard Police Department Focuses on the Dangers of Distracted Driving
Oxnard, Calif. – On November 2, 2026, between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m., the Oxnard Police Department will conduct an enforcement operation focused on drivers suspected of violating the hands-free cell phone law.

Under current law, drivers are not allowed to hold a phone or electronic communications device while operating a vehicle. This includes talking, texting, or using an app. Using a handheld cell phone while driving is punishable by a fine. Violating the hands-free law for a second time within 36 months or a prior conviction for the same offense will result in a point being added to a driver’s record.

If you have an important phone call or need to program directions, pull over to a safe parking spot. Before driving, either silence your phone or put it somewhere you can’t reach.

Funding for this program is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

In Mid-September, officers from the Oxnard Police Department’s Special Enforcement Unit (SEU) began investigating Oxnard resident Jesus Morales for unlawful possession of a fi***rm by a felon. On the above date and time, SEU Officers, along with the Neighborhood Policing Team, served a search warrant in the 400 block of North Anita Avenue related to this investigation. During the search, officers located a loaded fi***rm next to Morales, as well as narcotics on his person. Morales was arrested for fi***rm and narcotics related offenses.

It looks like the skies are bringing some more wet weather our way. According to the latest forecast, rain is expected to arrive tonight and continue through the weekend.

With wet roads and potentially challenging driving conditions ahead, the Oxnard Police Department would like to remind everyone to slow down, stay alert, and take a few extra precautions when traveling around our community.

A FEW RAINY-DAY DRIVING REMINDERS ---

SLOW DOWN! Wet pavement reduces tire traction and increases stopping distances. Give yourself extra time to reach your destination.

INCREASE YOUR FOLLOWING DISTANCE. Leave plenty of space between your vehicle and the one ahead of you. Sudden stops can be especially dangerous on slippery roads.

TURN ON YOUR HEADLIGHTS. California law requires drivers to use their headlights when weather conditions require continuous use of windshield wipers. Help others see you!

AVOID DISTRACTIONS. Put your phone away, keep your eyes on the road, and give driving your full attention.

WATCH FOR PEDESTRIANS AND BICYCLISTS. Rain and reduced visibility can make it more difficult to see others sharing the roadway, especially near intersections and crosswalks.

NEVER DRIVE THROUGH FLOODED ROADWAYS. It's difficult to judge the depth of standing water, and even relatively shallow water can create dangerous conditions.

And remember, the first rainfall after an extended dry period can make roads especially slippery as accumulated oil and debris mix with rainwater.

Whether you're commuting to work, taking the kids to school, or heading out for weekend activities, please be patient, drive defensively, and look out for one another.

A few extra minutes on the road are always worth getting home safely.

Yesterday evening, our Oxnard Police Department Community Storefront at The Collection at RiverPark got into the Halloween spirit as we welcomed trick-or-treaters and their families for The Collection's annual Candy Crawl!

Our team had an absolute blast dressing up, decorating the storefront, passing out candy, and meeting so many fun members of our community. From creative costumes and familiar faces to new friends and plenty of spooky excitement, it was an evening full of fun and great memories!

Events like Candy Crawl are one of the many reasons we love having a Community Storefront at The Collection. It's an opportunity to connect with our residents.

A big THANK YOU to everyone who stopped by to say hello, show off their costumes, and share a little Halloween fun with us! We also appreciate The Collection at RiverPark for continuing this wonderful annual tradition and bringing our community together.

And a special shout-out to our OXPD team for going all out with the decorations, costumes, and Halloween spirit! Squad Goals!

🚨 100 MPH IN A 55 MPH ZONE! 🚨

Earlier today, an Oxnard Police Department Traffic Unit Corporal observed a gray 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer traveling northbound on Victoria Avenue from Gonzales Road at approximately 100 MPH in a posted 55 MPH zone.

The Corporal was able to catch up to the vehicle and initiate a traffic stop. The driver was arrested for reckless driving.

Speeding at this level puts everyone on the roadway at risk. At 100 MPH, a driver has significantly less time to react to changing traffic conditions, increasing the potential for a serious or fatal collision.

The Oxnard Police Department remains committed to proactive traffic enforcement and holding dangerous drivers accountable.

On October 15, 2026, at approximately 9:00 PM, officers from the Oxnard Police Department responded to the 2600 block of Wagon Wheel Road following multiple calls reporting a fight involving multiple subjects in the area. One subject was reportedly in possession of a fi***rm. Officers made contact with several people involved in the altercation but were unable to locate the fi***rm.

Investigators from the Oxnard Police Department’s Violent Crime Unit (VCU) took over the investigation. Investigators worked collaboratively with the Neighborhood Policing Team’s Beat 14 Coordinator and gathered enough evidence to identify the suspect in possession of the fi***rm as 26-year-old Rivaldo Aguirre.

On October 28, 2026, at approximately 9:00 AM, VCU served a search warrant at Aguirre’s residence in the 600 block of Cuesta Del Mar in Oxnard.

Aguirre was located and arrested during the ex*****on of the search warrant. During the search of the residence, a loaded 12-gauge sh***un with an obliterated serial number and am******on were found.

Aguirre was arrested and booked into Ventura County Jail on multiple fi***rm-related charges.

Over the weekend, members of the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office joined an outreach presentation at Bethel AME Church in Oxnard focused on domestic violence awareness.

Supervising Victim Advocate Sally Cardona and Deputy District Attorney Carlos Duarte participated alongside the Oxnard Police Department’s Sexual Assault and Family Protection Unit. Our victim advocates were also on hand to share information about available support and resources through Victim Services and the Family Justice Center.
