Members of the Orlando Police Department’s Operation Positive Direction Youth Mentoring Program teamed up with local volunteers to support Josephine Torres, a dedicated member of the Dover Shores Senior Center.

After losing her husband, Felix Rodriguez, in May 2025 following 40 years of marriage, Josephine has worked hard to maintain the home he once cared for. To honor her strength, resilience, and years of kindness within the community, officers and youth mentees came together to assist with landscaping, painting, and other home improvement projects to help ease the burden of maintaining the property on her own.

This project reflects the power of community, service, and compassion. The Orlando Police Department extends its sincere thanks to Eden Landscape Enterprise and Orlando Painting Service for their generous support in making these improvements possible. 💙🏡

This morning, Orlando Police Department officers participated in the Central Florida First Responders Charity Basketball Tournament at Apopka High School, where police and fire departments from across the region came together in support of a meaningful cause.

The tournament raised funds for Dreams of Joy, an organization dedicated to bringing comfort, support, and memorable experiences to adults ages 21–65 battling terminal illnesses.

Congratulations to Officer Shawn Chuman on being named Orlando Police Department’s Field Training Officer of the 1st Quarter of 2026.

Officer Chuman’s commitment to developing the next generation of officers has made a lasting impact on our department. During the first quarter of 2026, he successfully trained four recruit officers. Since becoming a Field Training Officer in October 2023, he has trained 21 recruits, helping prepare them for successful careers in law enforcement.

Known for his patience, professionalism, and strong mentoring skills, Officer Chuman has a unique ability to help recruits build confidence and overcome challenges throughout the training process. His guidance has played a key role in developing capable and productive officers who serve our community today.

Officer Chuman’s dedication to the Field Training Program and the success of our probationary officers makes him highly deserving of this recognition.

DUI stop turns into crash and foot pursuit.

During a citywide DUI operation on March 5, 2026, OPD officers stopped a driver near E. Amelia St. and N. Orange Ave. for suspected impaired driving.

The driver, 20-year-old Milton Morrison, refused officers’ commands, threw the vehicle into reverse, and struck a marked patrol car while trying to flee. Moments later, he crashed into a tree and ran from the scene on foot.

Officers quickly located Morrison and took him into custody. During the arrest, officers recovered a felony amount of cannabis.

Morrison was charged accordingly and transported to the Orange County Jail.

Impaired driving puts everyone at risk. OPD officers will continue proactive enforcement efforts to keep our roads and community safe.

Congratulations to Detective Kelly Jockin, OPD’s Detective of the Month for April.

Detective Jockin was recognized for her outstanding investigative work during a violent assault investigation involving an attempted sexual battery and aggravated assault with a firearm. Using her extensive Special Victims Unit experience, she built trust with the victim, identified the suspect, and uncovered connections to additional violent crimes, including an armed carjacking and burglary.

Through her investigative efforts and coordination with other detectives, a search warrant led to the recovery of a firearm, stolen property, drugs, ammunition, and other evidence. A violent repeat offender with an extensive criminal history was taken into custody and now faces multiple felony charges.

Detective Jockin has 19 years of law enforcement experience, including 10 years with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office and 9 years with the Orlando Police Department.

On May 15, 2026, officers conducted a traffic stop in the area of Robinson St. and Rosalind Ave. During the investigation, officers developed probable cause to search the vehicle and recovered a firearm from the driver’s waistband.

Officers made contact with the front passenger and located a camo-colored bag that contained a scale, multiple baggies, cash, cannabis, and psilocybin mushrooms.

As a result of the investigation, Abraham Gaines Jr. and Marcus Escarment were arrested and transported to jail.

Proactive policing and officer vigilance continue to play a key role in keeping illegal drugs and fi****ms off our streets.

Week 3 of the Citizens Police Academy is in the books!

Participants got an inside look at the Orlando Police Department’s state-of-the-art gun range and training facility, including a hands-on experience with the TASER simulator.

They also had the opportunity to meet and speak with one of our K-9 officers and learn more about the important work our Community Relations Division does through the Direct Connect program.

The goal of these exercises is to expose K-9 dogs to various environments and situations they may encounter in the field.

This type of training helps build their confidence, strengthen their obedience, and enhance their adaptability, ensuring that our K-9 teams are well-prepared for any challenges they may face.
