We love the volunteers and clients at our Altenheim site in Oakland! Our Volunteer Coordinator JaNeal taught volunteers how to use their Volgistics sign-in to track their hours, and our Development Manager Kari collected surveys from the clients!

Driver Spotlight: We are so happy to have Freddy on our team as a Driver and Community Coordinator. He has taken on the role quickly, becoming a friendly face to all of our distribution sites! This past year we have been working hard to increase the amount of Recovered Food that goes out to our seniors! This means saving perfectly good food from going to the dumps of big stores who wouldn't otherwise be able to salvage it.

Since we started our Food Recovery program in February of this year, we have rescued nearly 100,000 lbs of food.

Thank you to all of our partners, independent donors, and volunteers that ensure that this food makes it into the bags of seniors in Alameda County!

Look at this wonderful group of volunteers from our distribution at Newark! Our organization was started in 1982 by the senior residents of Mercy Retirement and Care Center, and still to this day our work in Alameda County is fueled by Seniors helping Seniors!

We are excited to announce that our Mobile Food Truck is back on the road! Here we are serving the happy seniors at Noble Towers.

It is very important to us that our clients not only walk away with a bag full of groceries, but also with dignity, respect, and a sense of community. Our client-choice, self-serve Food Truck helps us to achieve all of those goals at once!

September is Hunger Action Month! This month, we’re highlighting the importance of coming together to fight hunger in our community. At Mercy Brown Bag, we provide healthy groceries to low-income older adults across Alameda County, helping make sure our seniors have access to the food they need.

Consider making a donation, volunteering, hosting a food drive, or simply sharing our mission with others. Every bit of support makes a difference!
