Newfields trick or treat is Saturday from 5:30-7:30. We will have several officers working to make sure the hundreds of kids in the Main Street village area are safe. Motorists, please drive slowly and use caution. We ask that pedestrians cross the street at an area where a police officer is present. Our officers will have chocolate to hand out that was generously donated by Lindt. See you then!

PRESS RELEASE

October 13, 2026 | 1:45 p.m.

On October 13, 2026, at approximately 10:53 a.m., the Newfields Police and Fire Departments were dispatched to Route 87 (Piscassic Road) at Dixon Avenue for a report of a fallen tree across the roadway and utility wires, with the tree on fire. Upon arrival, emergency crews determined that the tree had struck a passing vehicle. The motorist sustained minor injuries. Preliminary observations indicate that the tree was rotted and fell amid rain and wind.

The Newmarket Police and Fire Departments also responded to assist at the scene.

Eversource crews arrived and quickly restored power to Newfields Elementary School. Restoration efforts in the surrounding area remain ongoing.

Route 87 remains closed between Old Lee Road and Bassett Lane. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use an alternate route.

Tree down on wires, also struck a passing vehicle causing minor injury on Route 87 at Dixon Ave. Eversource is on scene. Unknown how long the road will be closed or power restored.

As we mark the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001, we pause to remember the lives lost, the families forever changed, and the first responders whose courage and sacrifice will never be forgotten.
In their honor, two pillars of light will be shining from the summit of Mount Washington—symbolizing the Twin Towers and serving as a powerful tribute of remembrance, resilience, and unity.
