The WOW Center Miami

The WOW Center Miami The WOW Center is committed to empowering individuals with disabilities.

Formerly known as Community Habilitation Center, the WOW Center was organized in the early 1970s thanks to the efforts of a small group of parents of children with developmental disabilities (autism, cerebral palsy, intellectual disabilities, Down syndrome, Prader-Willi syndrome, spina bifida). This group of parents were facing the reality that after their sons and daughters graduated high school,

their options were limited. There were not many programs or services available for their family member in others for them to keep learning, developing and ultimately achieving their goals, the WOW Center was created to meet this need in our community. The WOW Center is an Adult Day Training (ADT) center that currently supports and serves over 170 adults with developmental disabilities from Miami-Dade County who range in ages from 21 to 76. Since its founding, The WOW Center has broadened its programs and activities and amassed an enviable reputation throughout South Florida. The purpose of all The WOW Center services is to offer support, guidance and encouragement to adults with developmental disabilities regarding their personal choices, abilities, growth and ultimately, independence. We provide individuals with programs designed to help them learn skills in order for them to lead meaningful and productive lives, explore their potential, and develop a sense of community. To attain these goals, the agency offers the following work and education programs: Life and Work Skills, Technology Lab, Art, Sports and Fitness, Music Therapy, Community Based Education, Supported Employment, Speech Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Social Services, Special Olympics, and a Kiwanis Aktion Club.

A reminder that when people are given opportunities to explore their interests, amazing things happen. 💚

What happens after high school for adults with developmental disabilities?

For this individual, it meant finding a place where he could be fully himself.

More than 50 years ago, a group of parents came together to create opportunities where none existed. Today, that vision lives on through individuals who are learning, growing, building friendships, and thriving.

Because everyone deserves the opportunity to belong. 💚

It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of Alex Paez, beloved husband of our longtime staff member, Maggie Paez, and a cherished member of the WOW family. 💚

For more than a decade, Alex generously shared his time, talents, and heart with WOW. Whether he was tending to our garden, hanging lights for holiday celebrations, supporting our Service Club, or creating opportunities for our individuals in the community, Alex was always willing to lend a helping hand. His kindness, generosity, and warmth touched countless lives.

As we mourn this tremendous loss, we ask our community to keep Maggie, their children, and all who loved Alex in your thoughts and prayers.

To support Maggie and her family during this difficult time, we have included a link to a GoFundMe in our bio. Every donation, prayer, message, and act of kindness is deeply appreciated.

Alex’s impact on our WOW family will never be forgotten. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered. 💚
