Metter Fire Rescue is looking for people who want to serve their community and be part of our team. We are currently accepting applications for Full-Time Firefighter and are always looking for dedicated Volunteer Firefighters.

***Public Notice - Road Closure***

Starting Monday, August 24, Vertia Street will be closed for approximately 10 days from S. Lewis Street to S. Rountree Street.

The closure is necessary to ensure the safety of construction workers at the new fire station as work continues on the south side of the building.

Please plan accordingly and use caution when traveling in the area. We appreciate the communityโ€™s patience and cooperation while construction is underway.

On Thursday, Metter Fire Rescue personnel had the opportunity to provide Stop the Bleed and Fire Extinguisher Training as part of the Cotton Gin Safety Classes hosted by Growers Supply here in Metter.

Personnel from cotton gins across the state attended the training, giving us the opportunity to share practical, hands-on skills that can make a difference when an emergency occurs.

Participants learned how to:
Recognize and control life-threatening bleeding

Properly select and operate a fire extinguisher

Recognize when a fire can be safely handled with an extinguisherโ€”and when it's time to evacuate and call 911

Improve workplace preparedness before an emergency happens

๐Ÿšจ INCIDENT UPDATE โ€“ METTER K-8 SCHOOL ๐Ÿšจ

This morning, Metter Fire Rescue was dispatched to Metter K-8 School for a reported fire alarm.

Upon entering the gymnasium, firefighters encountered light smoke and immediately began investigating.

Crews quickly determined that the smoke was coming from a piece of equipment that was plugged into a wall outlet inside the weight room.

Firefighters removed the source and began ventilating the affected areas to clear the remaining smoke.

The incident was quickly brought under control, and no injuries were reported.

Metter Fire Rescue personnel remained on scene to assist with ventilation and ensure conditions were safe.

We would also like to thank Commissioner Brad Jones for his assistance during the response. We appreciate his willingness to step in and assist our crews and school personnel.

N. Lewis Street (Hwy 121) is currently SHUT DOWN between E. Lillian Street and Candler Street due to a downed power line.

South Rountree Street in the area of Vertia Street is currently CLOSED due to a gas leak behind the fire station that is under construction.
