Strong thunderstorms in a line from near Boomer to near Morganton, Marion, and Spruce Pine moving southeast at 20 mph with wind gusts up to 40 mph and pea-size hail. Gusts may knock down tree limbs and hail may damage outdoor items. Seek shelter inside a building if outdoors.

1:35pm: Strong thunderstorms are clustering along the Blue Ridge and will move Southeast around 25mph over the next several hours. Here is the timeline on the current cluster of storms arrival.

Storm clusters are ongoing early this afternoon east of Charlotte, NC, and near the TN/NC border, with more storms developing across the southern Appalachians into northern SC. As heating increases, coverage should expand this afternoon, with a growing risk of downbursts and localized damaging winds, plus sporadic hail. Storms may move south-southeast.
