Strong thunderstorms in a line from near Boomer to near Morganton, Marion, and Spruce Pine moving southeast at 20 mph with wind gusts up to 40 mph and pea-size hail. Gusts may knock down tree limbs and hail may damage outdoor items. Seek shelter inside a building if outdoors.

Storm clusters are ongoing early this afternoon east of Charlotte, NC, and near the TN/NC border, with more storms developing across the southern Appalachians into northern SC. As heating increases, coverage should expand this afternoon, with a growing risk of downbursts and localized damaging winds, plus sporadic hail. Storms may move south-southeast.
