Attention - Letters have been sent to some voters as the North Carolina State Board of Elections and county boards work to improve the accuracy of voter records, as required by Numbered Memo 2025-03.

Receiving this letter does not affect your ability to vote, how you vote, or whether your vote will count. It also does not necessarily mean there is an issue with your voter registration.

The letter means that we were unable to match certain information in a voter’s record with information in either the North Carolina Division of Motor Vehicles (NCDMV) or Social Security Administration (SSA) database.

There are several reasons why a record may not match, including:

Data Entry Errors: A mistake in a date of birth, driver license number, or Social Security number, such as switched or missing digits, can prevent a match.

Older Registration Records: Before 2004, voters were not required to provide a driver license number or the last four digits of their Social Security number when registering. Voters who registered before this requirement may not have this information included in their voter record.

Name Differences: Names may appear differently between records due to spelling, hyphens, spaces, apostrophes, or the use of a previous or maiden name. The name shown on the letter is the name currently listed in our voter records.
