UAMS Head Start/ Early Head Start serves children birth to 5 years old and pregnant women in Pulaski County.

We are a federally-funded program that provides quality early childhood education and services for families experiencing economic hardship. Non-Discrimination Statement

Halloween is a fun time for costumes, treats, and making memories together! A few healthy choices can help children enjoy the holiday while building healthy habits.

🍽️ Start with a healthy meal before trick-or-treating.

🍎 Add healthy snacks like oranges, apple slices, cheese cubes, or popcorn.

🍬 Enjoy candy in small amounts and save some treats for later.

💧 Choose water to stay hydrated.

🦷 Keep smiles healthy by brushing teeth before bed.

✅ Check all candy and treats before children eat them. Throw away anything unwrapped, damaged, or unsafe.

At Head Start, we know that one of the easiest ways to keep our children healthy is by practicing good hand washing hygiene every day!

Washing hands the right way helps stop germs from spreading and keeps our families feeling their best. 💙

👐 Teach your child these simple steps:
✔️ Wet hands with clean water
✔️ Add soap and scrub for at least 20 seconds (sing the ABCs 🎶)
✔️ Rinse well
✔️ Dry with a clean towel

🌟 Don’t forget to wash hands:

✅ Before eating
✅ After using the restroom
✅ After playing outside
✅ After coughing or sneezing

Making hand washing a fun daily habit helps protect everyone at home, in the classroom, and in our community!
