Red Ribbon Week is a time to raise awareness about the importance of living a healthy, drug-free life and making safe choices. It reminds us that prevention starts with education, positive role models, and communities working together to protect our youth.

Red Ribbon Week began in memory of DEA Special Agent Enrique "Kiki" Camarena, who was killed in 1985 while working to investigate drug trafficking. His sacrifice inspired people across the country to wear red ribbons as a symbol of their commitment to preventing drug misuse and keeping our communities safe.

Let's honor his legacy by educating our youth, encouraging healthy choices, and working together to build a stronger, drug-free future!

Have your kids and communities been celebrating RRW? If so, please share (with permission) pictures and stories of what they are doing; we love to see how others are staying involved.

💚✨ 18 MONTHS. ONE VISION. ONE INCREDIBLE TEAM. ✨💚

As we wrap up our celebratory series of posts about the inaugural Comanche County Youth Summit, I would be remiss if I didn't recognize the people who spent the last 18 months dreaming, envisioning, planning, problem-solving, and working to bring this vision to life.

Our Executive Committee invested countless hours into creating an experience that would make a meaningful difference in the lives of Comanche County's youth.

Please help me celebrate this extraordinary team:

👏 Michelle Amerson
👏 Denra Riley
👏 Precious Moore
👏 Cassady Le
👏 Lexi Tusek
👏 Christina Erman
👏 Brooke Anthony
👏 Jennifer Gormley
👏 Charlot Haumesser

Each person brought unique strengths, perspectives, connections, and talents to the table. Together, they helped transform an ambitious idea into a one-day summit that welcomed more than 200 sixth graders and brought our community together around a shared commitment to youth well-being.

I am humbled by the trust that was bestowed upon this team to pull off such an amazing event for our youth. There were countless details to manage, challenges to navigate, decisions to make, and moving pieces to coordinate. But through collaboration, perseverance, and a shared belief in what we were building, we made it happen!

To the Executive Committee: thank you for believing in the vision, trusting the process, supporting one another, and staying committed to something that will extend far beyond a single day. I am incredibly proud of what we accomplished together.

And to EVERY coalition member, community partner, school administrator, educator, volunteer, presenter, sponsor, parent, and supporter who played a role in this journey: please know that you are part of this story, too. This summit is proof of what can happen when a community comes together with a common purpose.

We set out to create something innovative for our youth, and we hope this inaugural event is just the beginning of a lasting tradition in Comanche County.

We are tired. We are fulfilled. We are grateful. And we are already dreaming about what's next! 💚

📣 STAY TUNED FOR DETAILS ON NEXT YEAR'S COMANCHE COUNTY YOUTH SUMMIT!📣

The inaugural summit may be behind us, but the work of investing in our youth continues. Let's keep showing up, staying connected, and finding new ways to help the next generation LEVEL UP!

This past Saturday, WMPN participated in the Pathways Drive-Thru Resource Fair and Drug Take Back Event. Organizations were set up to share resources with the community, and attendees did not have to leave their vehicles. WMPN gave out educational resource bags, medication disposal bags, and lockboxes.

We were able to collect 13 pounds of medication and 18 pounds of sharps, which all help to keep our communities safer and help prevent accidental overdose. Thank you to the City of Duncan OK- Police Department for helping with the collection and safely disposing of medications, and the City of Duncan OK- Fire Department for picking up our sharps disposal containers and storing them until the medical waste company could pick them up.

If you were not able to attend this event and have medication(not sharps) you need to dispose of, you can drop off at the following locations:

Jefferson County Sheriff's Department- Waurika
Thompson's Pharmacy in Comanche
Marlow Police Department
In Duncan:
DRH Health (ER Entrance)
Duncan Police Department
R & S Drug #3
Stephen's County Sheriff's Department

💚🔥 OUR JUNIOR PRESENTERS. OUR PRIDE. OUR FUTURE. 🔥💚

Y'ALL. If there's one thing about the inaugural Comanche County Youth Summit that deserves its own VERY special post, it's our Junior Presenters!

These incredible young leaders were selected back in March. Since then, they've shown up, leaned in, learned, practiced, collaborated, grown, and poured their hearts into something bigger than themselves.

From our Junior Presenter Kick-Off in May to summer training, preparation meetings, co-presenting workshops, leading activities, and facilitating peer-led discussions, these students committed MONTHS of their time and energy to making this summit a success.

And when September 23 arrived?

THEY SHOWED UP AND SHOWED OUT! 🙌

They stood alongside adult professionals as co-presenters. They helped their peers navigate important conversations. They led activities, facilitated small-group discussions, and demonstrated what happens when young people are trusted, empowered, and given meaningful opportunities to lead.

They weren't simply participants in the inaugural Comanche County Youth Summit. They were an essential part of its vision, its planning, and its success.

To our Junior Presenters: thank you for your courage, your commitment, your creativity, your honesty, your willingness to grow, and your belief in what this summit could become.

You have single-handedly left an indelible mark on our community, and the impact of your leadership will be felt for years to come. You have shown us what is possible when youth aren't just invited into the conversation but are trusted to help lead it.

We hope you recognize how extraordinary this accomplishment is. You should be proud of yourselves, because WE ARE SO PROUD OF YOU!

This is bigger than one day. It's about building a generation of young leaders who know their voices matter, their choices matter, and they have the power to make a difference.

Thank you for being the first cohort of Junior Presenters for the Comanche County Youth Summit. What you've helped build is something special, and we cannot wait to see what you do next!

You didn't just help us LEVEL UP. You showed our entire community what leveling up looks like! 💚🔥

💃🎨🧘‍♀️ WHO SAYS LEARNING CAN'T BE FUN?! 🧘‍♀️🎨💃

One of the things we wanted for the inaugural Comanche County Youth Summit was an experience that went beyond sitting in a classroom. We wanted our sixth graders to move, create, collaborate, laugh, try something new, and make connections along the way!

And LET ME TELL YOU… our activity leaders DELIVERED! 🙌

A huge thank-you to the amazing people who made our afternoon activities such a hit:

💃 Line Dancing: Our incredible Junior Presenters Katelin Krieg, Alexandra Mabis, and Sheridyn Wise

🧘 Tai Chi: Tanya Organ of the Lawton Public Library

🏅 Y-lympics: Jennifer Keener and Alyssa Sanchez of the Lawton YMCA

🎭 Theater: Michael Harden of Lawton Community Theater

🔬 STEM: Raegan Martin-Teakell of FISTA STEM Lab

🎶 Zumba: Samantha Graham

🎨 Art: Alyssa Cox

Thank you for bringing your creativity, enthusiasm, and talents to our summit! Each activity gave students an opportunity to explore something new, build connections, and experience the importance of wellness, teamwork, self-expression, and trying new things.

A special thank you to our Junior Presenters who stepped into leadership roles and helped guide their peers through the fun. Watching young people lead other young people is exactly why this summit matters!

We are so grateful to every activity leader who gave their time and energy to create an afternoon our students won't soon forget.

Community, connection, creativity, and a whole lot of FUN! That's how we LEVEL UP! 💚
