Lawrence County CEO Welcome to Lawrence County CEO; Creating Entrepreneurial Opportunities. This class is combined of Unit 10 and 20 students learning the basics of business.

The CEO class covers the basics of conceptualizing, starting and running a small business. Concepts such as supply and demand, cost/benefit analysis, competitive advantages, and opportunity recognition are covered. In addition, coursework includes: innovative thinking strategies, product development, business structure, marketing, financial strategies, record keeping, and preparing an income statement, balance sheet, income and cash flow statements.

Tuesday the Lawrence County CEO class toured Ambraw Asphalt. Troy and his team shared a little about the history of the business and their impact on our area. Ambraw Asphalt bids on projects in the area. These bids must meet bid specifications. Projects are different so it is important to prepare a bid that will benefit the business and client. Quality control must be monitored closely. Producing asphalt that might produce ruts or cracks will result in redoing a job. That could impact their profit margins. We were so impressed with all the many aspects of Ambraw Asphalt. Thank you Troy and your team for a great visit. Also thank you for being an investor in the Lawrence County CEO Program.

Thursday the Lawrence County CEO class visited Route 50 CrossFit. Morgan Arnold with Route 50 CrossFit shared the “why” she and her husband Jarad started their business. They both were active in CrossFit. They both researched a need for a CrossFit existed. There were many others in the community and surrounding area who wanted a CrossFit gym where they could attend classes and workout. Morgan talked about their members pay a membership fee to use the gym and services. They determined their prices by totaling their expenses and setting a price they felt others could afford and were in line with area communities our size. Thank you Morgan for our short workout. It was real fun!! We enjoyed our time at Route 50 CrossFit.

Pargin Retirement Planning Group hosted the Lawrence County CEO class last Tuesday. Matt and Shelby talked with the group about various aspects of the business. Matt shared how important it is to gain the trust of your clients. Clients want someone who is reliable and empathetic to their investing needs. He also shared that your most important asset is time. Time when investing and time as you plan your life’s path. We thank Matt and Shelby for a great visit. Last Thursday we visited Griffin’s Pizza House. Owner Tyler Griffin shared how he bought the business in 2020 and immediately had to close inside dining. During COVID many chose to eat out and with his drive thru he was able to continue serving. Tyler mentioned he tracks his sales very carefully and this helps him determine what items are not selling and possible changes to his menu. He explained there are many factors to consider when determining prices. Tyler monitors his costs and makes adjustments as needed. He also shared the importance of always trying new ideas. Many can become new products on the menu. Thank you Tyler for sharing some great business advise.

Our first full week of CEO is in the books. On Thursday we visited Wild Child Flower Farm. Delores and Macee shared their business story with the group. Together they both saw the need for a flower farm in our area. After lots of research and talking with others in the industry Wild Child Flower Farm opened in 2020. It is great to see along with Delores and Macee their husbands play a huge role in the business. Also, Delores shared with the group that early on she had some who doubted the business would succeed. She told them to believe in themselves and their vision. Delores also shared how they have stepped outside their original plans with flower subscriptions and special events. We also were excited to see the new Petal House. The Petal House can be be rented for bridal showers, small meetings and other events. It was great to spend some tine with Delores and Macee and hear about Wild Child Flower Farm and the new Petal House.
