Stay inside, don’t drive unless absolutely necessary, keep warm and check on your neighbors and elderly!

Not to cause panic or fearmonger, but we are looking at the potential for a significant winter storm, named Fern.

Sumner City Hall will be open as a warming center.
If we experience prolonged power outages, the Sumner and Chauncey Fire Stations will also open to the public.

Please understand this storm may impact road conditions and delay response times for all first responders.
Use good judgment when requesting EMS services. Minor issues such as headaches, cramps, or a runny nose (flu like symptoms) can likely wait until conditions improve. However, do not delay calling for serious concerns such as chest pain, broken limbs, breathing difficulties, or any life-threatening emergency.

Stay safe, check on your neighbors, and prepare ahead of time.

Be safe and be prepared

🌩️ Severe Weather Potential Today🌪️

A marginal risk of severe thunderstorms exists across southern and eastern Illinois today as a big cold front pushes through. If storms pop, the main threat will be damaging wind gusts (maybe hail or a brief spin-up) later this afternoon into the evening.

Then after the storms pass and the cold sets in we are at a risk of a “flash freeze”. This means we are at a risk for black ice. If you are traveling tonight or in the early morning, be extra cautious. 🧊
