Square One is a non-profit that recruits and discovers young, diverse, progressive Congressional candidates and provides high-impact, hands-on support in order to win. NEW OPPORTUNITY
Square One looks for districts long overlooked by the Democratic establishment, identifies compelling, young and diverse candidates and creates the infrastructure needed for them to run and win, ushering in a new generation of political leadership. By recruiting diverse candidates and providing them the necessary tools to run for office, Square One is working to create a government that truly represents the people it serves. A HANDS-ON APPROACH

Pia Dandiya is a first-generation American, born and raised in Palm Beach County to parents who immigrated from India. She began her career as a teacher and founded a high school in Harlem at the age of 28, becoming one of the youngest high school principals in the country. Every single graduate of her school earned admission to college, even though 86% of the students came from low-income households. She later served as a White House Fellow and went on to work in technology and policy. Now, she’s running for Congress to fight for a future worthy of her students and her son. In 2018, she was the first person of color, first woman, and first millennial elected to represent her district. She was the youngest Black woman to ever be elected to Congress. Lucy McBath lost her 17-year-old son, Jordan Davis, when he was shot and killed in 2012. She turned that loss into a mission, becoming a national leader against gun violence. A two-time breast cancer survivor, she knows firsthand why affordable health care matters for Georgia’s working families. Chris Pappas made history in 2018 as the first openly gay person elected to Congress from New Hampshire, and he has held one of the country’s most competitive House seats ever since. Before Congress, he served three terms on New Hampshire’s Executive Council and helped run his family’s 109-year-old landmark restaurant, where he learned the value of hard work that he’s brought to every fight in office. Chris is rooted in New Hampshire’s values: hard work, fairness, and never backing down from a fight. Let’s help him win New Hampshire’s Senate seat on November 3!

He was raised in his grandfather’s church and by civil-rights-leader parents who taught him about the importance of service, and he has dedicated his life to service his community. Sharice Davids is a member of the Ho-Chunk Nation, and was one the first two Native American women elected to Congress in 2018. She is the first openly LGBTQ+ person elected to Congress from Kansas. As a former MMA fighter, she doesn’t back down from a fight and that means speaking up for Kansans. She’s focused on tackling the issues that are most important to Kansas families, including lowering the cost of living, bringing good-paying jobs and opportunity to her community, and making sure the government is working for everyday people.
