Palmer Community Complex

Palmer Community Complex The Palmer Community Complex is located in Lakeville, Indiana.

The Newton Center was originally built in 1931 as Lakeville High School, home of the Lakeville Trojans. The facility was later purchased in 1989 by Robert & Joyce Newton, owners of Hoosier Racing Tire Corp. Who renovated and transformed the facility to provide an elegant and modern space where the Michiana community could gather to enjoy concerts, banquets, weddings and local events. In November 2016, KR Palmer and Kerry Palmer purchased the Newton center and renamed it Palmer Community Complex.

Yeah, yeah. It’s still early. But leaf-changing season will be here before you know it. Are you wearing a carved pumpkin on your head yet? Is that pumpkin spice? No? Give it time.

While we’re here, autumn is a great time to visit national parks. From September through December, depending on the climate and conditions, forests, woodlands, shrublands, and grasslands can put on spectacular displays of color.

Before you venture out, check the park’s website for current conditions, weather, road and trail information, closures, rules, and other trip-planning advice. Because the leaves may be changing, but the need to plan ahead remains evergreen.

🌫️ Could August fog predict how much snow we’ll see this winter? ❄️

According to an old weather tradition, every foggy morning in August foretells a snowfall during the coming winter.

In parts of Appalachia, families kept track using a custom known as “Beans in a Jar.” Each time fog appeared in August, they placed a bean in a jar. At the end of the month, the number of beans supposedly revealed how many snowfalls winter would bring.

🫘 Start Your Own Beans-in-a-Jar Tradition:

Each morning this August, look outside at the same time. When you see fog, place one bean in a jar. You can even use small beans for light fog and large beans for thick fog. Then save the jar and see how your count compares with the winter ahead!

Discover the fascinating history behind this old mountain tradition and learn how families have passed it down through generations.
