Thursday Update:

– The varsity soccer team closed out their regular season with a 3-1 win on the road at Currituck. The first half was physical and intense. The Nighthawks capitalized on a chance when Finn Norko sent a well-placed strike from distance into the back of the net to take a 1-0 lead. Currituck answered with pressure of its own, drawing keeper Kevin Vicente out of the box before putting a solid shot toward the open net. Norko was there to save it, flying in with a header that knocked the ball out of bounds and kept the Knights off the board. First Flight carried the 1-0 lead into halftime.

In the second half, the Nighthawks extended their lead when Luis Chevez took a free kick. A Currituck defender tried to head it away, but the ball dropped to Zach Munro, who was waiting to finish with a short-range volley. Minutes later, Norko chipped in another goal to make it 3-0. This time the Knights responded and got on the scoreboard, but the Nighthawks held on for the victory.

First Flight will host a first-round NCHSAA 4A playoff game on Monday. Details will be shared as soon as the brackets are released.

Wednesday Update:

– V Soccer at Currituck, 5

As a reminder, parents, Friday is a teacher work day so tomorrow is our last day of the week with students. The kids have been invited to dress up in black and orange or purple and can also wear costumes as long as there are NO masks or weapons of any kind!

Tuesday Update:

– Golf in Day 2 of the NCHSAA 4A Championships at Southern Pines, all day

– The varsity soccer team closed out its regular-season home schedule with a dominant win over Hertford County, ending the game by mercy rule before halftime.

Kyler Breiholz got the Nighthawks on the board with a perfect cross from Luis Alfaro in the box for a 1-0 lead. Luis Chevez doubled it with a long-range strike from outside the 18. Finn Norko then scored the third and fourth goals, redirecting one off a block by the Bears’ keeper and finishing the other off Gavin Arnett’s shot, which the keeper had also blocked.

Arnett then drove the ball down the field after a pass from Sam Summerton and found the back of the net to make it 5-0, and he followed with the sixth goal himself. David Patterson added the seventh off an assist from Grayson Dalia. Samuel Castillo scored the eighth, and Zach Munro sealed the mercy-rule win with the ninth goal, again assisted by Dalia.

Come across the bridge to support the Nighthawks on Wednesday, when they take on Currituck at 5 in their final regular-season game.

And parents, please remember that makeup picture day is TOMORROW for students in grades 9-10-11, from 9:30-12:30 in the auditorium!

– Congratulations to the women's tennis team for a dominant upset last night in the third round of the playoffs! The Nighthawks won 5-1 at Southwestern Randolph, ending it in singles with wins by India Cherry, Emma Butler, Lila Foubister, Maeve Preisser and BA Folkes. It was a dominant team win with no need to play doubles! Now it's off to the Elite Eight on Monday, with FFHS traveling to Ledford!

– The varsity soccer team played host to Pasquotank and secured a mercy-rule win before halftime. Samuel Castillo opened the scoring on a perfect pass from Gavin Arnett. Cole Voight made it 2-0, finishing off an assist from Luis Chevez. Luis Alfaro pushed the Nighthawks’ lead to 3-0 on another Arnett feed, and Chevez added the fourth goal himself. Zach Munro scored the fifth and seventh goals, while Sam Summerton netted the sixth and eighth. Grayson Dalia sealed the mercy-rule win over the Panthers with a left-footed shot into the side net, assisted by Kyler Breiholz.

The Nighthawks hit the road today to face North Pitt. Their final regular-season home game is Monday against Hertford at 5.

– The cross country team dominated at the NCC Championships at Currituck on Wednesday, winning the men's and women's meets and having Adlai Berryman and Kayla Folkes repeat at NCC Runners of the Year! Theo Kiousis added a third-place finish to lead the men's team to victory for coach Gray Berryman, who was named league Coach of the Year. Folkes led a 1-2-3 finish for the women, with Quinn Wisecarver and Savannah Tyson in the top of the lineup.

Wednesday Update:

– Join us tonight at 6 in the David E. Oaksmith Auditorium for the fall chorus concert featuring music from both FFMS and our FFHS singers! As always, our student concerts are free and open to the public, so come join us!

– Tennis in NCHSAA 4A Playoffs, 3rd Round, at Southwestern Randolph, 4
– Cross Country at NCC Championships, at Currituck, 4:30

– The volleyball team ended Washington's season last night in the second round of the NCHSAA 4A playoffs, upsetting the No. 5 seed in a 25-23, 25-8, 25-21 sweep! The Nighthawks hope to keep wreaking havoc in the bracket Thursday when they visit No. 4 seed Bunn, in Franklin County east of the Raleigh area, with a trip to the Elite Eight on Saturday on the line. Good luck, Nighthawks!

– The varsity soccer team traveled to Northeastern last night and won by the 9-0 mercy rule against another conference foe. Sam Summerton opened the scoring early in the first half, finishing off an assist from Gavin Arnett. Summerton then sent a cross to Luis Chevez, who buried a spectacular shot into the side netting from a tight angle. Luis Alfaro added the third goal, and Kyler Breiholz followed with the fourth. Breiholz struck again shortly after, this time off an assist from Samuel Castillo. Summerton and Evan Thorn then connected on a quick give-and-go, and Thorn found Grayson Dalia, who finished into the back of the net to give the Nighthawks a 6-0 lead at halftime.

In the second half, Alfaro scored the seventh goal. Cole Voight netted the eighth on a solo effort, hustling past defenders and driving to the goal. Castillo sealed the mercy-rule victory with the final goal of the match.

The Nighthawks play host to Pasquotank today at 5, then travel to North Pitt tomorrow to take on the Panthers at 6.
