Dear Mountain Communities Neighbours,

2026 is flying by, and we want to make sure everyone living here in the San Jacintos is prepared and protected. We’ve got some important updates on Defensible Space Inspections and a draft of the new Zone Zero requirements that you’ll want to see.

The good part? Following these guidelines can actually help you secure discounts on your CA FAIR Plan premiums...

The best part? The MCFSC has funds to help you achieve this work at only a 25% cost-share to you!

We’d love to chat more about this in person. Join us at one of our upcoming community outreach events, starting with a kickoff to Wildfire Awareness Month! Check out the schedule at the link below.

We also have our GSOB BioBlitz coming up. Register with the QR code on the flyer below to learn how to identify GSOB.

Join us May 9th for a GSOB Bio Blitz on Santa Rosa Mountain!

What’s a GSOB Blitz?
A GSOB Blitz is a community-powered effort to detect and map goldspotted oak borer infestations. With your help, we’ll survey oak trees across Southern California to identify where this pest is spreading, and how bad the damage is. These surveys help scientists and land managers decide where to take action to save our trees.

Even better? It’s a great way to learn, explore, and connect with nature while making a real impact.

How it works:
Local survey events take place at designated places, dates and times across Southern California.
Events are led by local agencies in collaboration with UC ANR and other partners.
Volunteers (like you!) will collect data in the field, after a brief training session.
Registration is FREE! There is no cost to register and no cost to participate.
You don’t need to be an expert; we’ll teach you everything you need to know!

The registration page is at this link, and can also be reached by scanning the QR code on the attached flyer:

April 19th-25th is National Volunteer Week!

National Volunteer Week is the time to thank the folks who do what they can to maintain and improve the community. It's also a time to encourage others to go out and volunteer themselves.

This week, we want to extend our gratitude to the Woodies.

For the year of 2025, the Woodies put in over 1500 hours of volunteer work and produced 65 cords of wood for the program!

The Woodies have been preparing the fuel for the Help Center firewood donation program for decades. The Wood Bank distributes firewood to people in our community who are unable to provide for themselves, keeping our neighbors warm during the winter.

Thank you to the Woodies and those who support them. Our community will always be warmer with their support.
