Houston’s future leaders are already stepping forward. I was proud to join the 2026–2027 Mayor’s Youth Council at City Hall and administer the oath of office to an impressive group of young Houstonians. Since 1998, the Mayor’s Youth Council has given students the opportunity to understand city government, strengthen their leadership skills and bring attention to the issues that matter to Houston’s youth. I encouraged this new class to use its voice, serve others and help us build a stronger future for every Houston community. Congratulations to each of our new members!

It was my pleasure to welcome Christopher Jantz to my office and recognize him on his 50th birthday. Chris, who has Down syndrome, is a wonderful example of how every Houstonian can make a difference.

He is always looking out for his neighbors, bringing in their trash, recycling cans, and making sure their packages are safe when they’re delivered. His kindness and willingness to help make him a true asset to his community. Please join me in wishing Chris a very happy 50th birthday and thanking him for being an outstanding Houstonian!

It’s always a joy to spend time with Houstonians like Chris who make our city a better place.

Houston’s airports are taking off! ✈️

Yesterday, Houston Airports Director Jim Szczesniak gave City Council an update on the improvements already underway and the work ahead to make our airports better for travelers, employees, and our growing city.

We’re moving in the right direction, and we’re going to keep working to make Houston’s airports even better.

Today, we finalized an agreement with The Woodlands Township that is good for both communities - for the Woodlands and for Houston. Under this agreement, The Woodlands will pay the City of Houston $50 million in exchange for the certainty that the City will not annex the Township.

We’re taking a roadblock created by changes in state law and turning it into a significant financial benefit for Houston. This is about being good stewards of the city’s resources and getting a win-win for both communities. We will continue to keep looking for opportunities to do just that.

The City opened its emergency center Sunday and has worked around the clock with City of Houston Office of Emergency Management,, Houston Police Department, Houston Public Works, CenterPoint Energy, and public safety partners to prepare for heavy rain. Houston remains open. Updates will be shared hourly.
