We are a K-5 elementary school in Hoover, Alabama. Harriette W. It had sixteen classrooms for grades one through seven.

Gwin Elementary School, named for a Jefferson County Board of Education member, opened in January 1976. In 1992, an addition doubled the size of the school and in 2000 the front of the building was remodeled. We currently have an approximate enrollment of 600 students. In addition to offering state and district curriculum, we encourage students to explore their interest through clubs and organizations. These clubs offer hands on experiences for all students including Gwin Ovations Choir, Garden Club, Dance Club, and opportunities to explore other cultures.

🎉 Today our third graders ROCKED their Student-Led Conferences! 🎉

Over the past few weeks, our students have been working hard to prepare presentations showcasing all they have learned in third grade so far. Throughout this process, our students have become leaders of their own learning, taking ownership of their progress and confidently sharing their growth and accomplishments with their parents and special adults! 💙❤️ We are SO proud of the time, effort, and confidence they put into their presentations. Today was all about celebrating THEM and all they have accomplished!

A HUGE THANK YOU to our Hoover City Schools staff, board members, teachers, and parents who showed up to support and celebrate our students today! 🫶🏼 Your time, encouragement, and support mean so much, and none of this would be possible without you!

What a special day celebrating our amazing third graders and the incredible leaders they are becoming! We can’t wait to see all the wonderful things they continue to accomplish! ⭐️📚

⭐️ Hoover City Schools Foundation Grant in Action! ⭐️

Thank you to Hoover City Schools Foundation for your support toward a grant benefitting 3rd graders students called, "Unplug to Connect," which allowed us to share these"Connection Kits" with our students! These wonderful tote bags featured The Wild Robot, a classic Connect Four game, & multiplication flashcards! We are hopeful this will empower families to replace passive screen time with rich, face-to-face interactions.

Thank you HCSF for investing in our students' development and helping us bring our school community closer together.

On Friday, Gwin's Music Teacher, Ms. Russell took a select group of 5th Grade Gwin-ovation students to the AMEA Music Festival at Samford University! It was a fun and rewarding experience for our students that they will not soon forget! 🎵🎤

Last week our 5th graders took the lead during Parent-Student Conferences! Students shared their data, reviewed grades, and reflected on their study habits while discussing goals for continued growth and success. 💪🎯
