A little drama at the dinner table never hurt. 🎭

These theatrical placemats once owned and commissioned by Josephine Ford featured Broadway classics like Guys and Dolls, South Pacific, and The Sound of Music… so honestly, Shakespeare Stroll feels right at home here.

Now it’s your turn for a little drama. Join us August 6 at 7 p.m. for Shakespeare Stroll at Ford House.

Ford House began as a family home, a place Eleanor and Edsel Ford filled with love, art, and a deep belief in community. That belief still guides the institution their home became.

Our commitment to Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility grows directly out of the Fords' love of Detroit and its people. It shapes the stories we tell, the audiences we serve, and the partnerships we build. We work to ensure that every person who walks these grounds feels seen, heard, and valued.

This Pride Month, we reaffirm that commitment plainly. Everyone belongs at Ford House.

Today marks the anniversary of Edsel Bryant Ford’s passing on May 26, 1943, at the age of 49.

A son, husband, father, leader, and innovator, Edsel helped shape not only Ford Motor Company, but also the cultural landscape of Detroit through his vision, generosity, and commitment to community.

Alongside his wife, Eleanor Clay Ford, he supported institutions like the Detroit Symphony Orchestra and the Detroit Institute of Arts while raising their four children here at Ford House. His legacy continues to inspire the mission and stories shared across the estate today.

Want to learn more? Check out our free, permanent exhibition inside our Visitor Center, The Ford Family Story. It offers an intimate look at the family behind the legacy and how their lives continue to inspire future generations.
